    At about 5:45 PM on a Friday, a Direct Energy representative came to our door. He asserted that there was an issue with an erroneous charge on our electric bill and he could help us resolve the issue, and reduce our rate, or get us a statement credit or something to that affect. He stated he just needed to see our electric statement or if we could login to our online account in order to get a customer number, etc. I told him that wasn't happening and the fact that he was requesting information that the company would already have if we were customers was incredibly suspect at the very least and that if there truly was a statement issue, simply post the credit on the next bill. He then headed to my 87 year old neighbor's house. She lives alone. She let him in the house. I walked over, we had another discussion, and I escorted him out. We are not customers of Direct Energy. This is an unacceptable, and borderline fraudulent, sales tactic. These people should not be trusted.

    Unacceptable, simply unacceptable. I never had an issue with the cost, I like the plan I have. In 2024, I had a return payment due to forgetting to update my billing information. Because of that, they're telling me I can't change my due date. This is unheard of, I've never changed my due date while with Direct Energy and I have been with them for several years. With the late fee and reconnect order it adds $50 to my electricity bill and that's almost every month. I was able to get someone to waive the late fee once, and that's it. I've tried to pay my bill minus the late fee, but that still shows up as an amount due. Not being able to change my due date, just to charge me additional fees is a money grab for them and I will no longer allow it. I'd rather pay a deposit, if needed, and move on to a different company. If that's what is needed to change a due date, that's what I'll have to do. Paying an additional $50 a month is asinine and the fact "my account shows ineligible, for a due date change", I'm gone. I hope before choosing this company, you visited this site. Just several months ago, their score wasn't an F. To think, with such a decline and now they're no longer accredited shows they're going downhill. Change my due date and credit those late fees back to my account. Seriously, there has to be a legal recourse for this or possibly, with looking at the other complaints, a class action lawsuit. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is having or had, this issue. Do better, this isn't it!

    Terrible company experience. Electric wasnt transferred to new place after I set up the application weeks in advance. Now I'm one month into my new place and I have two Electric bills to pay, one being on a month to month plan. I've been on the phone with them for over an hour being transferred around. This is ridiculous

    I would have given zero rating. They just add recovery fee every month even if the bill is late by a day. Their auto pay debit doesn't work. There could be times where we could miss a day and they charge. They would inflate bills for no reason. There are many companies in TX that provide better service. Please go with them. This company is very bad.

    i joined their plan which was free nights ,after trying to see how much my bill has dropped before the grace period of 30 days iwas not able i called them i was told i cannot do it because it it was 3 days more than 30 days my question is if my bill is not posted after 31 days how i am going to know if the bill has dropped using their new plan of free nights ,their customer service reps are horrible they dont know what they are telling their customers mostly are ********** ,after talking to one of their supervisor they put me on another plan if i dont want it i have to pay $295 cancellation charges they suck

    Our HOA has a clearly posted NO SOLICITING at the entrance. Some scruffy man in a ball cap, shorts, untucked shirt with no ID is banging on doors trying to sell power.

    Direct Energy IS HORRIBLE! I have used this company for 3 years and if your a day late $30.00 fee. I moved into a new unit and received a bill for over $220.00 less than 2 weeks of being in the apartment. I also received an email on9/25/24 ( the day my bill is due ) stating if not paid by 10/42024 they will disconnect services. PLEASE do not use their services they will overcharge you . I reached out to customer service to address my concerns and his reply was " Those are the rules ",

    Direct Energy sends representatives to my door almost every month to harass me. These reps are trained to lie by telling me they are my energy supplier, and they want to take me "off the increase." As though a company that makes a clerical error these days can't just fix it in their database, and door-to-door is the only way. What a joke! They are not my supplier. *** *** ****** is my supplier through ******** ***; and ******** **** is my electricity provider. Every visit, they are surprised when I tell them that *** is not my provider - confirming they are trained to lie about being my provider - likely to engender trust from less informed consumers. They claim they are not trying to sell me anything - yet they are trying to get me to switch to their service. If they had something valuable to offer me, why the misleading tactics? They could be up front and suggest that they could offer lower rates than my current provider, and then I would be interested. Since they chose to lie, instead, it's likely their rates are going to be higher than what I already have. I have asked them every time to remove me from their list, but they keep sending their mis-informed agents to lie to me. Unsuspecting residents will get switched to Direct Energy by signing up for something they don't understand, and the law of the land is "buyer beware." So, I'm writing this post, hoping that some buyers will beware of this garbage sales tactic, meant to hook unsuspecting residents to a service that just wants money and offers higher rates in return. I can't blame the agents. They tend to be young people genuinely interested in helping residents get "off the increase." The agents are aggressive - "so you don't want to save money" is one of the lines I got... from someone who claimed they weren't trying to sell me something. Sure. This is the only BBB review I've ever written, and I hope it's the last. These guys are a joke and they deserve less than one star.
