On 8-14-24 a technician from this company named ******************** arrived at my residence to check an air conditioning concern. He was very prompt and professional. That is what I expected since I had used them before. After he had isolated the problem with the compressor fan not operating he said it needed refrigerant. He also said that because of environmental law changes and because I had an older unit the refrigerant I needed was in short supply because it is no longer manufactured. I had heard that from other sources so I did not question that. He said he had 2 cans in his vehicle he had bought for a relative but would sell to me for $200 a can. Because I trusted Wolverton I said yes. He quickly changed and said he might have 3 cans. I still said yes. My suspicion arose again when the compressor remained on while he said he was filling my unit with refrigerant. The manufacturer of the compressor confirmed that the compressor should be off when adding refrigerant though a few later models may operate. My compressor sits outside a window and I never saw any hoses the manufacture said should be used to install refrigerant in cans. It remained on for the entire time refrigerant was supposed to have been added. The ******************** of Retired Persons (AARP) said what I described was a very common scam that takes place at this time of the year. Because seniors usually live in older homes and are very trusting they most often are the victims of acts like what I described. On 8-15-2024 I called Wolverton and left a message for ****** to call me. I left no details other than I had questions about the service he had performed. As of the day of this complaint I have not heard from him. I also saw that he tore off the magnet used to secure a protective wire covering for the compressor. It was too strong to come off other than being pulled off. I showed it to ****** earlier that day. When he asked for two different checks as payment I knew something was wrong.
