My name is ******* **********. I looked into buying hearing aids and was given the name of Better Hearing Center in Ogden, Utah. When the saleswoman, Summer C*****, came to my house and tested my hearing she recommended a product called Resound. She checked with my United Healthcare for coverage. Summer convinced me, though, that she could give me a better pair of hearing aids which would be a bit more expensive (but that she would give me a good discount). I met with her two times afterwards to try to adjust the aids but I just felt they weren’t working for me and told her that. Summer kept telling me to wait before returning them, however, "just give it more time". I tried to call her several times to ask how to return them. No one returned my calls. I even left a msg finally for the owner to call me back. My daughter drove me all the way to Ogden 50 miles away to make sure they were delivered safely to the office. I was afraid to send them back thru the mail. We left them at the front desk with the secretary who assured me I would get a call back soon. No calls so I I tried to call them again, leaving msgs to ask what they planned to do, and STILL no return calls. Yesterday I received the hearing aids in the mail (no business address even). I called the company, left a msg to please call me. No answer so I attempted to reach them again towards the end of the day and finally reached the secretary. She told me she understood and would get a msg to the owner of the company to call me. The bank they went through, Synchrony Bank, told me they would put in a 2nd "dispute" (Better Hearing Center refused the first one). Several people (including The Office of Health and Human Services on Aging), suggested I reach out to you for help. They definitely took advantage of a much older senior citizen. Fraud, bad business practices, not sure what you would call it? But it's just not right. Hopefully, you can help. Thank you. ******* ********** ###-###-#### or ###-###-####

The first week of January this year, we responded to an ad in the Ogden Standard Examiner for a Phonak hearing aid. No other brand was mentioned. The aid specified " Try for 30 days, No cost, No Obligation" When we met with, Summer, the sales representative on 6 January, she immediately informed us that she carried the "Resound" brand hearing aid which was better than the Phonak. She had my wife try the Resound and told us my wife had 30 days to try them. If my wife didn't like them no problem. We inquired about insurance and were told that insurance only covered inexpensive hearing aid and didn't apply in this situation. My wife was fitted for a "Resound" and made a payment of $4,999. No problem money would be refunded if there was any problem. As we signed the contract, we were informed that if the hearing aid were returned there would be a 15% charge. In the meantime, we contacted our insurance company and determined that in fact to would pay a substantial part of a purchase for hearing aids. When we met for the fitting on 17 Jan, I asked Summer why when we came to see about a Phonak we were switched to a Resound. She said she made that decision, based upon my wife's needs. I found out that our insurance would in fact pay a substantial portion of a top-of-the-line hearing aid. My wife agreed, accept the Resound hearing aid. Within 10 days my wife found that the Resound hearing aid was not satisfactory. Summer's solution, try another hearing aid and start a new 30 day trial. By this time we concluded that we had been subject to a "bait and switch" deal, we had been lied to about insurance. The hearing purchase was not satisfactory. We returned the Hearing aids to their office with a written letter on 1 February. After several days, no refund. Called office and was told by Utah law, no requirement to refund money for 30 days. Refused to give me contact information for owner, decision maker etc. 8 March was told check is in the mail, 14 March, no check.
