Today, October 5, 2023, I agreed to "join" as a "member" of the SCLA and quickly realized that I was being scammed. Not only did I pay them $95 to do this, but I already am seeing "service" charges on my bank account. Once you have signed in as a "member" no option is provided for deleting your profile or cancelling your "membership", making me their hostage, financially. I have sent them an email requesting that I cancel this practically this (non-)service and have had no reply. I want a refund of $97 for their "membership" and "service" fees, of which I am given no option to back out of on their (far less-glamorous than the marketing) member's portal.

    Hello,

****************** had just signed up last night and contacted us about receiving a refund shortly after signing up. He had contacted us out of business hours, so we responded to him this morning and have completed his request for a refund immediately. If members are interested in a refund, they must contact us directly for assistance, as most businesses operate. Additionally, there is no service fee to join, as it is just $95.00 to join, this part of the complaint was not even brought up when ****************** contacted us. I am attaching proof of the refund to our response and to show that the charge is only for $95.00. We believe this complaint to be unfair and untruthful as we were not even given 24 hours to resolve his request for a refund and for the fact that there is no service fee upon joining.

If there is anything else we can assist with, please let us know.

I paid $95.00 for a membership to the SCLA, I was unaware at the time that this was not an accredited business. I have emailed them and tried to call them with no response as of yet. Every time you try to call its quiet then rings one time, then goes straight to a voicemail. I left a voice mail as well. I just want my money back as this is not what I thought I was getting. I thought I was getting a membership with an Honor Society that was legit. Then you get into the website to find where they are located and its a random place in a shopping center.

    Hello,

We are unsure why ************** has made a complaint as we have already voided her transaction the day that she had made the payment. She reached out on 08/24/2023 and requested a refund and we responded promptly and voided the transaction. I am attaching our email exchanges the day that she had made the request and proof of the voided payment on the day that it was requested.

Additionally, our office is located in a shared office building and we are unsure how this information is relevant to her complaint.

Please let us know if there is anything else required on our end.

I was invited to this honors society by email and was told the deadline is in 4 days. Ive never heard of scla and ipon reading the website couldnt see info until i paid. This should have been a red flag bit i was so excited to receive honors cords. Which the website never mentioned. After paying I realized that I was charged TWICE within 5 minutes. Ive emailed and called with no response to either. That raised suspicions so i did some research only to find out that it was a scam. I need a refund of BOTH of my $95 payments and my membership cancelled.

    Hello,

******************** already reached out to us on 08/10/2023 inquiring about a refund for her duplicate charge. We promptly refunded her duplicate charge after she responded with the required information on 08/17/2023. She clarified that she wanted the other charge refunded and to cancel her membership. We responded and let her know that we could do that for her, however she then said to disregard her second refund request and that she wanted to keep the membership. At no point after did she reach out and ask for a refund. Additionally, she never reached out and asked for the link to our store, which is linked in our Member Support email signature.

Our conversation through email will be attached, along with the receipt of her first refund and the one we processed in response to this message.

Please let us know if there is anything else required on our end.

This membership is not at all what I expected. It is giving off scam. An when I tried to reach out for a refund. There is never any reply. I thought this company was supposed to help students and build them up. It looks like theyre just here to scam students out of money. Hopefully this will speed up my refund process seeing as I have been trying to get my money back for the last month. Please do not give your money to these people.

The transaction took place on 3/31/23. I paid by clicking on the ***** link on the **** website. After I paid, I went back to see that they still want me to pay $95 again and now I feel like I have been scammed. I no longer want to be a member of **** and would like to stop receiving invites from them. I want a full refund back to my account.

    Hello,

We have processed the refund request for ****************** on 04/03/2023 and removed his account as requested.

We responded as soon as possible to ************** when he reached out in regards to his account not being updated to reflect his membership status. We had a delay on processing the refund, as ************** had placed a dispute on the ***** payment before we could process the refund. We had to wait for the dispute to be lifted by **************, before we could refund his purchase. I have attached our email exchanges to show that we promptly responded to ****************** request and kept him updated in regards to the refund process.

I have also attached proof of refund through ***** as well.

Please let ** know if there is anything else we need to provide on our end.

Hello, I am filling a complaint against the SCLA, I am attaching the email. It's a society that is funded by pressuring sign up, with deadline notices, as if there is exclusivity. However, the BBB has a litany of filed complaints with the BBB. the SCLA is not recognized, nor legitimized by **** ***** University. They are not an official Honor Society recognized by **** ***** U. I am expeditiously requesting my funding back asap, this is not ok to solicit funds from students with false advertising as being tied to official Honor societies back by university campuses. This is fraudulence, guised by taking advantage of student funding with no real accreditation. Scamming program, ******* *****, and everyone should be ashamed. email from SLCA: Dear ****, We have identified you as a potential candidate for membership in The Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement (SCLA). SCLA is a multidisciplinary honor society with more than 80,000 members at 600+ colleges nationwide. Membership is granted based on academic progress and strong GPA. The deadline to join is in 7 DAYS. Hello,

We have fulfilled **. ******* request for a refund. Proof of refund has been attached to this message.

We would also like to state that there was no attempt on ****************** end to reach out to us in regards to membership with the SCLA. We would have answered any questions or concerns regarding his membership and fulfilled his original request. Additionally, we allow all prospective members to extend their deadline for registration upon request. We use the deadline essentially for our school invitation codes. After the deadline, we deactivate those codes until the next enrollment period.

I paid $95 on 3/5/2023 to get a membership for an honor society that seems to just be scamming students for their money. I dont even know where to cancel or request a refund as there doesnt seem to be much information listed on the SCLA website. I dont trust this organization after reviewing many complaints

Today I purchased a membership from the SCLA for $95, assuming I would gain access to all of the advertised services. This is not the case. Once I gained access to my "account" there was just an empty error page saying that the site did not exist. I did not pay that amount of money to be given nothing in return. I have reached out to the company and have yet to hear back. I will only accept a full refund. This is unacceptable and honestly seems illegal.

In July 2022, I received an email stating that I was invited join The Society for Collegiate Leadership. This is was my first (junior year) time in school at this university. I completed the process to sign up and it requested I pay $95. I paid the $95 on 08/14/2022. Once I sent the payment I never received any further information about the program in my email or at my home address. I feel like this business is fraudulent. I tried reaching out to the business several times and no one answers. I have since joined a different honor society through the chapter at my university and I have had an induction ceremony and received a certificate, t-shirt, medallion, and stickers. I feel much safer with the new one I joined. I would like my $95 refunded back to my account and my membership with The Society for Collegiate Leadership canceled.

I received an e-mail telling me that I had received an invitation to join The Society of Collegiate Leadership and Achievement and decided to apply, but I was told to pay a fee of $95.00. I did not think much about this and decided to pay the fee by debit card on 12/14/2022, but I wish I would have looked further into it before I made that decision, because after reading other reviews on this I have found that joining was a waste of time and money, and I would like to have my $95.00 refunded and to have my membership cancelled and account terminated.
