My husband’s vehicle broke down on a Friday afternoon in traffic with it the children in it and a policeman called AC’s Towing. The tow truck driver told us the car was being towed to ******** Garage (conveniently owned by the tow company owner’s brother). My husband called the following Monday morning and told them we had called ***** to have the tow covered by insurance. We then spent an entire week going back and forth with AC’s Towing and ***** because ***** could never get ahold of them. They just literally didn’t answer the phone or call them back. Then we discovered that this whole time our car had NOT actually been at the garage like we were told, but was actually at the towing company’s lot. So we were deliberately LIED TO so that the towing company could charge us storage while they ignored calls from ***** about the towing fee. Then we were told we needed to pay over $900 because our car had been towed and stored there when we thought it had been at ******** Garage NOT AC’s Towing the whole time. This brother duo is obviously scamming people by intentionally deceiving them into believing their cars are at the garage when they’re actually at the towing company racking up storage fees. We NEVER would have left our car at the towing company for a single day, much less an entire week if we had known that’s where it was. We were also quoted $225 for the tow, when I thought in Virginia the maximum for a tow was $150 unless it’s between 7pm and 8am (ours was NOT during those hours). I have no problem paying $150 for the tow, but don’t believe we should be charged anything else since we were misled about where our car was being taken.

This individual was only charged 225 and WAS NOT charged any storage as far as the law that was quoted here is the complete code. Localities in Planning District 8 (washington DC area) and Planning District 16 (richmond area) shall establish by ordinance (i) a hookup and initial towing fee of no less than $135 and no more than the maximum charges provided in § 46.2-1233.1 and (ii) for towing a vehicle between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. or on any Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, an additional fee of no less than $25 and no more than the maximum charges provided in § 46.2-1233.1 per instance; however, such ordinance shall also provide that in no event shall more than two such additional fees be charged for towing any vehicle.Towing fees are not regulated UNLESS there is an active tow board in effect and in our locality there is NO tow boards.

On 1/6/24 at 11:01, AC's Towing and Recovery was called by ********** Police Department to respond to a motor vehicle accident. AC's towed the vehicle, 2024 Nissan Sentra, to their lot approx. 2 miles away and according to bill provided scene clean up. I have no complaints about their service. My issue is the charge was $2800 plus $100/day the car sat on their lot. I feel the cost was excessive. I have since had the car moved at a fraction of the cost (of course this was for towing and storage only). The receipt I have provided does not include the additional daily lot charge of $400.

This consumer was told to call the next morning after her vehicle was towed.  She did call and was told to call her insurance company to help.   She called a week later and then said she did not have insurance.   The $400 charge is for storage.  We charge $100 a day and gave her a break on the storage cost because we have the car for a week.
