  The BBB received this phishing scam email. We warn those who receive this email that this is a phishing scam, and the credit union is aware of it. Here is the email itself: Dear Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union Cardholder,We detected irregular activity on your Coulee Dam FCU credit card on 01/10/2008.For your security, your online banking profile has been locked due to inactivity or because of too many failed login attempts. Unlocking your Coulee Dam FCU profile will take approximately one minute to complete. Our automated system allows you to quickly activate your card. To reactivate your account, you must contact us at (800) 550-4966.Copyright PSCU Financial Services, Inc. All rights reserved. TIPSPhishing is a term coined by computer hackers, who use e-mail to fish the Internet hoping to "hook" recipients into giving them logins, passwords and/or other sensitive information. In all these scams, the phisher first impersonates a legitimate company. In a typical scam, the phisher instructs recipients to click on a convenient link to receive or provide information that can then be used by phishers to access the recipient's sensitive personal or business information. For more information about phishing and for tips to avert other scams, please visit www.bbb.org To prevent falling for such a scam, the Better Business Bureau, along with the Federal Trade Commission, offer these tips to consumers:If you get an e-mail that warns you, with little to no notice, that an account of yours will be shut down unless you reconfirm your billing information, do not reply or click on the link in the e-mail. Instead, contact the financial institution, bank, credit union or company referenced in the e-mail using a telephone number or web site address you know to be genuine (because it appears on a billing statement, for instance). Avoid e-mailing personal and financial information. If you have determined the web site to be legitimate and do decide to submit financial information, look for the "lock" icon on the browser's status bar. It signals that your information is secure during transmission. Review your credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them to determine whether there are any unauthorized charges. If your statement is late by more than a couple of days, call your credit card company or bank to confirm your billing address and account balances. If you believe you have been scammed, report the suspicious activity to the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org), the FBI's Internet Complaint Center at: www.ic3.gov and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov).
