My ***** Sonic 2015 was overheating and on Thursday the 29th of December 2022 I took it to ONB Automotive Repairs for a service. Few days later, I received a phone call from **************, the shop owner, stated that the car cooling Fan was not working and needed to be replaced. Then he called me back saying that it was working and doesn't need to be replaced. On Tuesday January 24th 2023, ************** called me saying that the repair was not completed and they will need to perform more diagnostics and this will require more money. At this point I did not agree with him since he was being insisting and pressuring me to let them go ahead with more diagnostics and changing the parts.I told ************** that it will be too expensive and I would rather have my car back. He told me that I have to pay $2,900.00 for their time even though he said that the car was not completely fixed. I started feeling suspicious about ****************** business conduct and I felt that I was getting scammed and taken advantage of. He was calling me every week for 4 weeks with a new story and a price increase that was worth more than $1000 although we did not reach any agreement and the conclusion. In the end I was going to have to pay more than $4000 as per his explanation and that he can wait for my next paycheck so I have enough money. ***** and I agreed to meet on Tuesday the 31st of January 2023. I went to the shop to talk to ***** and he was not present as per our arrangement. The employees provided me with the invoice but they failed to provide me with the receipts for all the parts ordered and replaced. They refused to give me back the car because they want me to pay for what I did not agree to.

I am rejecting this response because:

If ************* had issues with my accent and understanding me, why would he go ahead and fix the car without any written agreement or consent?  The last conversation we had was on Jan 24th 2023, Then afterwards he was the one who kept calling me. By then I had already talked to my friend ***** about the issue I was having with ****** business conduct and the suspicions I was having. I had felt like ***** was taking advantage of the fact that Im a woman and probably knows nothing about cars.  ***** knows the issue with my car because hes been the one helping me with car issues. Jan 26,2023 My friend ***** called them telling them to not fix the car and will come pick up the car. The lady answered the phone and told ***** that ***** was not available, but right after the ******************** called me whereas ***** was told ***** was not available to talk.  I did not call him on February 1st 2023. He is not telling the truth with regard to that. Jan 31st 2023 thats when I went to the shop with my friend ***** to pick up the car and that's the same day I filed the complaint after they refused to give me my car back.
Finances were not an issue. I was not going to lose thousands and thousands of dollars on a second car with high mileage. I realized ***** was just trying to scam me and there was no way I was going to have my car back unless I let him do what he wanted to do after our conversation on Jan 24, 2023. On Jan 25th 2023 I went ahead and bought myself a new car and came home with it the same day. I felt like there was know way I was getting the ***** back.

On the 1st of February 2023, they are the ones who actually called me, telling me that they spoke to *****, and ***** said he had my calls recorded (Without my knowledge) and they can prove that I agreed to the repair so I must come pay and pick up the car. Since I had already filed the complaint, I told them that I cannot comment on that. And that was the end of our conversation.

With regard to the car maintenance I have track records of all the oil changes made. The last oil change was in August 14,2022 at **********, *******. However I just forgot to replace the old sticker with the new one(picture attached).

In conclusion, I do not appreciate ************************ me as someone with no proper understanding of English, making funny remarks about my accent and making false statements. Id like to have the car back. He didn't have any consent to move forward with the repairs.

    Sincerely,

    Katlego Moholo
