********************* (owner of Sawhorse Builders LLC) breached contract on multiple occasions, did not do the work he represented to do for the fixed price he quoted, and exhibited negligence throughout the project. Our savings is entirely wiped out, we were forced to seek out additional debt financing to complete the work, and we are in a financially precarious position. ****'s extreme negligence also means that the project has been ongoing (signatures on contract as of October 15. 2021) for over 15 months as of writing this complaint on January 25, 2023. We've gathered that project delays were caused by his inability or refusal to pay subs for work completed. We witnessed several subs literally walk off of our project (presumably related to payment issues) and when pressed, **** failed to adequately communicate status. In late-stage conversations he repeatedly told us that "everything was more expensive than planned" but with limited documentation of expenses or requests for more budget. When pressed for detailed accounting of project costs, he was unable to offer detail and would only insist that everything was more expensive. It took significant pressure on our end to finally get him to admit that he wouldn't be able to finish our project with the funds remaining in our loan. By our estimates, **** walked away with $80,000 - $120,000 of loan money - money that was supposed to be applied to our project but that we believe was used to pay of debts from prior projects. We've since learned that he has bankrupted several businesses and that his contractor license expired three days after we signed our contract with him. He never attempted to renew it, as far as we can tell, and he didn't offer satisfactory explanation for the long lapse in licensing. We've also learned that he has at least two complaints/actions against his bond, each over $12,000, suggesting a pattern of behavior. We would like our money back and to ensure he never does this to anyone else.

    Customer response

    01/31/2023

The last three dates I contacted / attempted to contact the business were:

January 31, 2023: Communicated with ********************* via SMS (at phone number ************). I texted him at 11:21 notifying him that I emailed a termination letter to him that required his immediate response. He replied at 11:40 am PT saying he would check email.

January 25, 2023: I emailed ********************* and ******************* with a termination letter requesting their signature for finalization.  (email addresses: ********************* <*****************************************************************************************************************************************************;,
    ******************* <***********************************************************************>)

November30, 2022: I received a status update email from *********************, the last in a long thread pertaining to his ability to complete our project, his management of our loan funds, and other logistics. Within this thread we instructed **** to take no further action on our behalf and that we would be pursuing rescission. (That specific email is dated November 22, 2022.)
