Contracted to build a road into our property and install a septic. Was quoted $35,000 with the understanding there would be extra charges if they hit boulders etc. Was going way over estimate. I asked for bottom line and if we could get a discount if paid in full. Was quoted an amount and we paid it, bringing the total to just over $90,000! This was around Feb or March of 2023. Now, he's refusing to do the septic OR refund our money. He ghosted us, then said he'd do it 2nd week of September 2024. He then ghosted us again. We tried to contact his wife (she's on the ***** He then threatened me saying if I bothered his wife at work again "you and I are going to have a problem." This is guy talk intimating possible violence! He owes us $17,000 and is refusing to refund it. I dug into his online reviews and discovered this has happened to others as well (paid in advance, then didn't complete the job or issue a refund). Is this guy even licensed? We've asked for invoicing etc. since day one and never received any despite his acknowledgement that he'd get them to us. So, a $35,000 bid on the road turns into paying him over $90,000 for a road and septic and now we have no septic and he still has our money. We are asking for $17,000. He says it's $6,000 but he hasnt refunded that either! A refund of $17,000 still leaves him with over $73,000. That's over 2X his original bid! Again, we're not the first to be victimized in this way. He needs to be investigated! We'll now need to get an attorney, which we really can't afford, to try to get our money back. Unethical, dishonest, and potentially violent contractor. I have a lot of this history via text, including the threat. We desperately need that money back! I have ************ and venmo history documenting the money paid to him. The bank is sending me copies of all certified checks.
