Around Aug. 1 2022 I delivered my boat motor to West coastal services /****. He quoted me $350.00 to put the motor back together. Two to three weeks latter **** said it needed a new water pump. I said OK. Waited for a completed call. No call. On Jan. 4, 2023, **** called me and said the cost was around $1200.00 A new pump is around $63.00. Going from a $350.00 quote plus water pump to $1200 is a huge increase. He said he tried to take the motor apart and broke a s**** off. Then he took it to a machine shop to be fixed. I should not be held responsible for damages he made. I talked to **** and said it was too much money. **** said to pay him $865.00 and then I could have the boat motor. I don't trust him now after this event. I feel others should be aware of his practices and I don't feel I should be responsible for his mistakes. Do I just let him have the boat motor and walk away or am I'm obligated to pay him his asking price?

    Claim number 19601552

To Whom it May *********************** October 10, 2022 ********************** his 8hp Mercury outboard, serial number *******, in for a gearcase repair.

It was partially taken apart when he brought it to me.  The customer had pulled the shift shaft out completely, which meant that the gearcase had to be fully torn apart, then reassembled again.

I quoted a price of $352.45 before tax.  This included the tank testing as well.

He stated that the water pump wasn't working quite right and he had tried to install a new impeller.

    He authorized the repair.

After the reassembly we tested the engine only to find that the pump still wasn't working as well as it should.  During this same time we found the water bypass plate was leaking.  I called him and explained that the gasket would need to be replaced and one bolt needed to be removed as it had rusted out.

I use *****************************. in ************** ********** to do all of my extractions.

I charged $174.00 for the extraction.

I also explained to ************** that I would need to put in a complete upper seal kit, which consists of a complete water pump kit.  He again authorized the repair.

The total repair came to $1232.76.

I called him to let him know the outcome and cost of the repair.  In trying to help him I offered to discount the price to $941.72 which is a discount of $291.04.

I also offered to help him by allowing to make payments.

I have not heard from him.  Am I suppose to give my services away for nothing?

I am willing to help him in every way possible.

He also failed to tell you that 13 days after bringing his motor to me I had surgery on my ankle and was laid up for three months.  I had told him that I would not be able to complete the job until spring.  This job is now completed.

    Sincerely,

    *********************
