    Choose another outdoor store when ordering online. REI practices authorizing a pending amount due for transaction at the time of the online order. Then instead of settling that original pending charge, they will authorize an actual transaction at the date of the shipping, so the consumer funds will be withheld for up to 10 business days (depending on the bank) for the original pending amount to fall off the bank charges. It is not technically a double charge, but the consumer cannot access the funds for a time. REI could choose to do this differently, but does not. I have not experienced this with any other sporting good merchants. This is a common practice at hotels and for car rentals, because those merchants don't know the total amount that will be due. I will be using other sporting good companies from here on out to order online goods.

    Ordered a shirt two weeks ago and it has still not shown up. They used some shipping company called ********* that turns out to be independent contractors that transport packages in their cars. Sort of like when you order food. They do have limited order tracking. It took a week for my item to get from *********** to *******, but then all tracking stopped and my item shows as bing in some sort of Chicago Hub for the last week. REI customer support is useless they can only provide the same info BT-Trucks provides. They keep promising to follow up, but nobody ever calls back. I used gift cards to pay for my item and feel like they stole the value of my cards from me.

    Poor salesman/woman training of staff who are probably paid poorly. They do not have a ski shop but will repair and mount bindings for your skis. I saw no proof of certification(s) to work on skis. Plus, I never met or spoke to the person who worked on my skis. I was to pick up and not question the work that was performed. No one could come to the phone to answer questions before I went to pick up my skis. I seriously question the skills of their staff in repairing or selling skis. Buyers beware. Wait until you are at a ski resort to have your skis checked.Unhappy customer **********************************************************************************

    I am writing to warn everyone keep in eye out about REI making unauthorized duplicate charges on your credit card! I was a bit surprised and appalled to find out that REI made an unauthorized charge of $876.22 to my credit account on July 12, 2024. The charge was in error because the items of an original July 5, 2024 order were canceled and returned and the items were never delivered or picked up by **** ordered the items on July 5, 2024, but changed my mind and canceled the order and never received these items.It took great deal of effort on my part of many communications (e.g. countless emails and telephone calls over the course of almost a month(!) for this erroneous error to be corrected, and the charges related to the disputed amount be credited to my account, so that I could get an accurate statement.I also had a copy of documentation of the unauthorized charge supporting my position and experience. But of course, REI denied ever executing such an illegal act. Finally they corrected the error on my account, but only after threatening to pursue legal actions. Unreal.

    Falsely inflate sticker prices in their outlet. Then sell to unsuspecting customers as a deal when the deal is higher than the original sticker price. False advertising and lies at REI OUTLET.

    I ordered over $60 worth of stuff to get free shipping so they split my order into multiple shipments and charged me shipping. Will not be using them ever again. Only got 1 star because 0 isn't an option.

    SS data and name gathered from a REI app was used 4/24/24 to apply for a mortgage, as reported through a credit protection app. Consumers beware.

    Didnt have a great experience tonight. Ordered shoes for next day pick up. I got them and they had a stain on them. tried them on and walked from the front door and back. sat down and began to have an allergic reaction from the shoes. Difficulty breathing, hives and extreme itching. Called the store and they were more than happy to exchange, but they were way too far to drive back to.Called corporate and spoke to *****, who was passive and patronizing. I advised her that I felt she had an attitude and I wanted to speak with a manager, after she told me that they cant guarantee no one has worn the shoes and that displays are sold all the time without people knowing. she also said that they do what every other store does. She just seemed unhappy with her job. spoke with ******, who addressed the issue but by then the damage was done.She resolved the issue of the call by getting a new pair sent out to me, in exchange for the old ones by mail. She was decent to talk to.I did tell her that I work from home but explained that the way ***** addressed me which was assuming, and unprofessional really put a bad taste in my mouth. If it made sense to cancel the membership, I would have but it is not about the money.I think ****** assumed I worked in customer service, which I did when I was in college but I do not work in customer service now. however my job does involve having to speak with injured and traumatized individuals. The situation was handled incorrectly as it pertained to *****.I got the feeling that I annoyed ****** with my input, but I hope REI genuinely takes the time to select their first line employees with more discretion or at least invest in proper EQ training for everyone. we are all human, but kindness matters.Disappointed in this first bad customer experience.

    When I went to one of the stores in ******************* 2 days ago. I found out I have label "FRAUD" on my membership account. I asked them what's that mean? That wasn't even a sentence, just the word FRAUD? That's weird! It was even a sentence or some kind of explanations. What a bogus claim that REI is doing? I don't even know if my account had compromise. No explanation from the store what so ever. I have reached out using the 800 number and they couldn't explain what's going on my account. Instead, I have to wait for 2 weeks supposedly I will receive an email then. Also, I noticed, all of my purchased item within 1 year, which most of item can be return now they had blocked and showing its ***************** timeframe?

    Complete scam, they want to pretend they are a co-op, but this is a lie in principle.The *** received almost $4M dollars last year, during a year of record profits, and yet they cut employees, does not show a dedication to your employees. It shows that you are driven solely by greed, like every other mega corporation. So stop lying, and stop increasing your prices while saying it is to better the lives of the employees and the environment, its because your C-suite wants more money. Save your time and money and just shop online somewhere, or just go to the other mega sports stores, itll be cheaper and you wont get the feeling you are surrounded by filthy liars (plus youll probably have your returns honored and wont get scammed like REI seems to do every chance they get)
