I visited the gym location on September 20th to speak to a staff member about signing up. I was told they were running a special promotion where the first month was free. I'm currently recovering from hand surgery and stated I would not be medically cleared to work out until October 10th. I was told I could sign up and have my membership delayed until then so that I could still get my free time. I agreed a signed up. On September 27th I was charged $49 and the gym app showed I would be charged approximately $25 every two weeks starting Oct 17th. I called the gym multiple times and sent emails asking why my membership already started and why was what I was told not being honored. I received no response. Days later I sent another email requesting a cancellation and refund due to being misled and lied to. I received the following response: "Good evening. I’m Keshawn, club manager of AF Moundsville. I apologize for any misunderstandings regarding our promotion, which ends today. Upon signing up, your membership was activated like all others. Two weeks from that date, your bi-weekly payments begin drafting, and 30 days later, your fees also begin drafting. If you wish to cancel your membership, you may do so by filling out the necessary paperwork in person during our staffed hours. Please be aware that there will be no refunds, and the only funds due will be for just the next 30 days of payments as opposed to the full amount. " I was misled and lied to. Anytime fitness changed the agreement after I signed up and charged me $49. And even if I cancel tomorrow I will still be charged another $50. They convinced me to sign up through false promises and lies. It's fraud to take money from someone and not deliver on the agreement. And an agreement can't be changed after the fact. I want a full refund and for them not to take a single penny from me again.
