I received a phone call saying I was eligible for the carbon emission credit of 88$. No written contract, terms and conditions were ever received. They said that 67.79$ would be taken from my bank account. Told I had 15 days to cancelled. Call them back when I thought I was within those days and was told sorry I was late and that I could try again a year later which I did and cancelled ( 2019 June. Nothing appeared on bank statement until june 2020. I called again and told them I had cancelled previous year. They did not acknowledge it so I put a stop payment for that amount. Did not hear from them until a letter from ************ that I received this May ( letter dated April 27). I called **** immediately and was told I owed over $5,000. (Spoke to Assim?) told him I had cancelled and he said they had no recollection and made me listen to a recording of first call.I told him they should have 3 recordings and to check. I was not given a cancellation number. The next call from him came May 17. Once again told him I had cancelled. I called **** My 18 and have not had a response from them. This is why I am reaching out to you . Thanks. Outcome: I do not need this service. Cancel this service and do not want further contact by both companies and take away my banking information from them.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/06/08) */ Afternoon, ******. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Ontario Home Protection strives to provide the highest quality service to our customers. We understand that a small percentage of our customer base may not receive the level of satisfaction we intend to provide. In your case, the first time we ever spoke to you was June 6, 2020. There was NO prior contact before this date as you claim in 2019. We let you know there was a 15 day cancellation period where you MUST call in to cancel if you wish to not proceed with our services. No calls were received from you within the 15 days. Instead, when your first month payment came out, you placed a stop payment right away and were NEVER charged again from us. The $88.05 credit was also given to you. The phone call you listened to clearly states a 60 month term of which you agreed to. There is no record of a reduced term of 12 months. We would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible with you. We understand your frustration. We have put a note on your file. Please contact **** as soon as possible to find a resolution that works for you. Thank you, Ontario Home Protection Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/06/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Received a phone call from OHP in 2018 for the rebate and told could cancel within 15 days tried and was told too late and to call a year later which I did. Received no paperwork and no sign of debits on my account until June 2020. Called them again and said I had cancelled the previous year. They didn't acknowledge this so I put a stop payment at my bank. 2 years later I received a letter from **** who I called immediately and they said I owed $5000.+ spoke twice to Assim? May 3 and 17 and left a message on May 18. I will reiterate my request to terminate any contact with both companies and remove my banking information from OHP and **** records. Thank you. ************Initial Complaint

Ontario Home Protection made me believe they were a government agency registering people all over Ontario. They offered to deposit $88.05 in my bank account on the 15th of the month. Then repair services free for 15 days, and after that not for free. So basically it was insurance for home appliance for 60 months, which would cost a certain amount per month, I think but I forgot how much. I gave them the number from the bottom of a cheque. They kept asking me to affirm that I understood what they were doing which meant I was giving permission. I'm sure they will say that this constitutes a "contract." I phoned later to cancel, and the woman who answered said, "I'll tell them," but did not sound serious about it. The next day, I went to my bank. They opened a new account for me and are in the process of closing the old one.Initial Complaint

I received a letter from *****************, credit collections agency for Ontario Home Protection stating that I was owing an amount on the plan. The amount was not stated on the letter. I called them and a recording was played stating that I had signed up for the contract. I never got a letter in the mail from them to sign this contract or to cancel the contract within 15 days. I waited for this letter so I did not think I had signed up the contract until I saw money coming out of my bank account. I want to see the full contract and the reason for the charges for a service that I never signed up for or used. ThanksInitial Complaint

Briefly Money was paid out of my bank account information I provided this company as they led me to believe they were with the government wanting to deposit my carbon tax rebate of $88.05. I argued with them about giving my banking info and found out down the road they had withdrawn $474.53. They took monthly payments of $67.79 from March to September. Caused me to investigate because I did not sign anything or give them permission to withdraw from my account any money as they said it was warranty I was paying for household items. I said no but they have a recording to say I said yes. I called them. I wanted my money back and now I received in the mail another company ***************** looking for me to continue the payments or buyout the contract. I was thinking I need to pursue Small Claims Court. They are giving me 30 days. Please help me.Initial Complaint

on 2021 april 30 i received a call from joely m. #**** who represents "ontario home warranty inc." informing me that the federal government has authorized them to issue a carbon tax rebate in the amount of $88.05. she also tried to sell me on a home warranty package covering household appliances. it was agreed that they would send me info by mail before i committed to anything. there was no follow up by mail so i ignored their request. in february of 2022 i noticed a deduction in my bank account of $67.79 of which i have no record of authorizing. checking back on statements i noticed this amount had been deducted since 2021 june 25 and every month thereafter. i had the bank stop payment on this transaction immediately. on 2022 march 11 i received a letter from *****************. advising me that my account with ontaio home protection was in arrears and a third party collection agency would be involved. also threatened ******* and ********** would be involved. I contacted my mp's office and they said no such rebate was being issued through a third party from the government. i managed after several attempts to contact *****************. accounts receivable department ******************************* who signed the letter and during the course of the conversation he came up with a recording of the conversation with joely m. last year but it was put together in bits and not continuous and definitely not complete. total amount taken out of my account was $474.54 i also contacted my bank and i will meet at the branch tomorrow. obviously there are no supporting docs as there was never any agreementInitial Complaint

This problem started last summer - I cannot remember the date of the phone call from the company, Ontario Home Warranty. The caller said she was calling about the program the government was starting to help seniors with home repairs and with appliance repairs. She said the program would cost me $59.99/month for a 60 month period. She did not give me a chance to reply, but said that she had my bank account number. I was so shocked that she had my number that I forgot everything else. How did she get my bank account number? She said the government could get anything! After another while of her talking, I finally got a chance to tell her I was not going to agree to anything until I received more information in the mail. She said O.K. and that the information would arrive soon. She then told me that if I decided I didn't want the program, I should call Jenny C. at 1-888-204-4206. I didn't get anything in the mail and I didn't hear anything else until my bank statement arrived in July and I noticed the withdrawal for $67.79 for OHIP HM Warranty. I called the Jenny C. number several times but have not received an answer. $67.79 has been coming out of my account until a couple of months ago when I finally got the bank to put a stop payment on it. Last week I received a letter from *****************. telling me that my account with Ontario Home Protection had been assigned to them due to non-payment and if I didn't send them a payment they were sending my account to a third party collection agency. I phoned **** and left a message but, of course, I did not receive an answer. Can you help me with this or should I go a lawyer. I am 80 years old and I do not have a great deal of money so even $67.79 helps keep us going. Thank you.
