The Newton crypto is not letting funds to be released or coins to be soldBusiness response
05/09/2024
Hi ****,
Based on your transaction history and communications with us, we have decided to offboard your account. While we cannot get into specifics in a public forum, please read the following information and ensure you respond with any questions directly to our support team *******************. Thank you.
When interacting with strangers or individuals claiming to be cryptocurrency experts, or with individuals or companies promising unusually high rates of return, always exercise caution before transferring any funds. Furthermore, if an individual has reached out to you claiming to represent a company, entity, law enforcement, or any government official you should proceed with care and inform them you will contact the company, entity, or the authorities directly to verify their legitimacy.
Below are a few examples of red flags to be aware of that may help you identify a scam:
- Unrealistic Promises
- Any entity that asks for your private keys, passwords, or any personal information
- Any third-party investment broker or brokerages
- Any entity that promises to give great returns if you send funds to them
- Any entity that wants access or control of your funds
- Any entity forcing you or pressuring you to pay back any debts with crypto
- Any entity attempting to blackmail or extort youInitial Complaint

Around June 29th I opened a ticked with Newton essentially asking them on how to remove wallets from my Newton account. A person named Obaid replied telling me to withdraw my funds and that my account was being closed in three business days. I didn't break any rules or laws, yet Obaid randomly decided to deplatform me from Newton. ** ** **** *** ********* **** ** ******** ** ****** **** * ****** ****** ** * ******* ********* ****** Obaid also decided to restrict my ability to send my crypto to my other wallet. Effectively forcing me to sell my crypto for cash while the bitcoin market is down. * *** ***** **** ** *****, nor did I break any rules or laws. ******* ******** ** ********** ** **** ****** ** ******* **** **** *****. On Monday night, opened another ticket with Newton asking them to re-evaluate Obaid's ********* ****** decision, or to allow me to withdraw my crypto. We are now 07/05/2024 and I yet to have a reply. I would like for Newton to reverse the decision to close my account, or at the very least allow me to withdraw my crypto into another wallet. **** *********** *** ************** ********* **** ***** *** ** ** **********Business response

Hi there, we're sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your support experience and we followed up with the team to investigate this further. Upon further investigation, this was not a random decision to de-platform you. Due to the nature of cryptocurrency transactions being irreversible, we take any concerns of customers being involved in a potential scam/fraud seriously. As per our Terms of Use, you agree to use our Website and Service in accordance with the following acceptable use and code of conduct guidelines. If you have any questions please email *******@******.co and the team can assist you further. Thank you.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
I am writing ** ******* ** ******* regarding Newton’s unjust decision to limit my account. This action is completely unwarranted *** ******* ** ******* **************. It seems that Newton is fixated on the word "scam" from my original ticket, but as English is my second language, I used the wrong term. This is irrelevant to my case.
I merely requested assistance to remove wallets from my account, and nothing more. Instead, I was forced to sell my crypto at a loss and denied the ability to withdraw my cryptocurrencies. This is unacceptable and demonstrates a ****** lack of consideration for your customers.
Your assertion that this decision was made to protect against potential fraud is absurd, especially since I can trade freely on other platforms. I demand that my account be restored immediately and that I be compensated for my losses without further delay.
If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will continue to escalate my complaint further.
Regards,

I’ve been unable to complete verification through Newton’s technical system and have provided 2 government issued IDs so far. Account was opened a few years ago and I can still log in but they won’t let me transfer out money. They have no support phone number or live agent to speak with, nor a physical branch I can walk into to help with verification. Hi **********,
Thank you for providing your ticket numbers. We're sorry to hear you had some difficulty using the EFT Withdrawal option. Most of our users withdraw with ******* e-transfer because it is easy, quick, and free. It looks like our team reimbursed the failed EFT withdrawal to your Newton account on March 18th at 1:20pm and you acknowledged via email at 6:07pm. In the email, our staff member suggested trying an e-transfer withdrawal. We have not received any new ticket numbers since. Please create a new support ticket by emailing *******@******.co if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you.

On Mar 11 2024, I discovered my Newton Crypto Account had been drained except For the last $100 that was denied as an e transfer. The other $1900.00 gone in the wind. No one has called me from customer support. Some rep named Jerry sent me a survey to answer which I did then sent me an email saying it was my fault, I must have cashed out my coins and forgotten. Then someone must have used my ****** even though it has Face ID. The next day he sent me an email saying I have to close my account please re connect my bank account & with draw the last $100 (how did it become unattached). Why would I attach my bank account to account that’s been hacked? Now I have to go to the ******* Police, the RCMP Cyber Crime Unit and the Canadian Securities Commission. I can’t believe the unwillingness to dig into the account to see what really happened.Business response

Hi *******,
We take all suspected scams/fraud seriously, and will assist you in any way we can. Once you have gone to the police, they will create a police report. Once you have the police report created, they will ask you to provide certain information which we will be more than happy to assist you with. Due to the nature of cryptocurrency, transactions are not reversible which is why you must withdraw your remaining funds in CAD and not cryptocurrency. You can withdraw via e-transfer or EFT (which would have asked you to "connect your bank account"), but it is easier to use e-transfer. Thank you.Initial Complaint

We are very sorry to hear that you were a victim of a malicious actor, and we recommend you report this scam to your local law enforcement if you have not already done so. Additionally, we advise that you refrain from further interaction with the individual and/or company.
Please note Newton is not associated with any third parties. We are not connected to *** ******* and unable to provide you legitimacy or information on these companies. When you initiate a transaction off of Newton's platform, apart of Newton's ToU you agree that you are fully responsible of where the transaction is going and that Newton is not liable for transactions with third parties.
Unfortunately, as funds were sent from your Newton account willingly, by you, to an external third-party wallet, Newton can not be held liable for assets lost to this scam, and as crypto transactions are not reversible we will be unable to retrieve your funds.

On July 3rd 2023 I sold my entire ******* investment on my Newton crypto account through the app which is connected to my personal bank account. I then sent the money directly to my bank account through the app and received an email stating it was successful. It has been 4 days and the money is not in either of my accounts (newton or bank). I have created 3 support tickets through the newton app and no one has contacted me. I have screen shots and emails to prove all of this.Initial Complaint
