I received an unsolicited letter from "Debt Advisors of America," which is only mentioned in the fine print, as the letter claims to be from the ************************** The letter states that I may qualify for a debt settlement program for accounts with banks like ****************, Bank of America, and others. I feel it uses tactics about accruing penalties and interest to pressure me into calling their phone number, ************. However, the letter does not specify any debts, provide legitimate company details, or offer an option to unsubscribe from future mailings. The letter implies associations with major financial institutions but provides no evidence of any actual affiliation, which is misleading and potentially deceptive. Additionally, the fine print uses vague language to deny responsibility while soliciting consumers for their program.Business response

Worked with agent **** ********* in June 2024 and eventually choose to have Debit Advisor of America help me with the $55k in credit card debit starting in July 2024. I was advised to stop all payments and communication with credit card companies. **** told me he would work with my creditors to reduce amount owed and then what I paid per month would go into a "savings account " with ******************* and then the creditors would take their monthly payment (worked out via ***** per month. Check in with **** on July 8, ************************************** a call back, that was the last communication. I have texted several times, left voice-mail and even left multiple voice-mail on the company's number which I got directly from the website. I always get the recording of all agents are busy, which then turns into the line disconnecting about about 5 minutes. I have yet to hear from this company and now I am thinking this company is a scam. I have also received a lawsuit letter from one of my creditors and yet this company still isn't hasn't responded to me. Any help would be appreciated, however I will not be provided an account number over a public forum.Business response

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Debt Advisors of America concerning a letter I received from them on August 18, 2024. The letter appeared to be a debt collection notice urging me to respond "regarding the adjustments of your credit accounts". The letter listed several banks with which I do business and again urged me to respond within 10 days under a section with **Failure to Respond** in bold letters. After looking closer, I realized the letter is a deceitful marketing solicitation. Buried in the small print at the very bottom of the letter is the company name - Debt Advisors of America. It was not listed or mentioned anywhere else in the letter. This notice led me to believe I had accounts in default when in actuality all of my credit accounts are in good standing. This letter is deceptive, intentionally misleading, and appears to be a scare tactic to con unsuspecting people out of giving their personal information and/or signing up for their program. I do not know how this company obtained my information, and I do not want to receive any additional correspondence from them. Any further contact from them will be considered harassment. I request that the Better Business Bureau investigate this matter and take appropriate action against Debt Advisors of America to prevent them from continuing these deceptive practices.Business response

In ********* Debt advisors of America was supposed to assist with my ****** dollars in credit card debt. They advised me to stop paying my creditors and to ignore any calls or attempts to collect the debt. They said they would handle everything. Well eventually I began getting threatening letters in the mail about lawsuits. When I contacted your company about these letters I was told that it would all be handled. In late 2021 I got a letter requesting my appearance at a court date for a judgement from one of my creditors. At this point I contacted an attorney and was advised bankruptcy was the best option. Prior to all of this my payments were all on time and my credit was fine. I was just drowning in payments and interest. I thought Debt Advisors of America was going to help relieve the financial burden by making one payment. In the weeks and times following bankruptcy, I tried to contact DAA and could not get an explanation. I paid them thousands of dollars, wrecked my credit and still ended up filing bankruptcy. Where is my money? Every time I call I get the run around, get hung up on or some excuse. I just want a refund!!Business response

Hello ****************,
I was able to locate your Client ID, it is *************.
Your account was cancelled by your Service Provider due to an NSF payment. However, I am looking into the status of your account further with them as you should have received a refund of the funds in your escrow account at the time of cancellation. On June 8th, 2024 I received a deceptive letter regarding contacting their offices within 10 days regarding "adjustments of your credit accounts". The letter furthers lists most main US banks and says if I have an account with one of those or other lenders that I could be entitled to a settlement of outstanding balance. If I didn't respond, it would "result in interest accurring on your unsecured credit card balances at an unreasonable rate". I believe this is a scam and the letter doesn't have a company address anywhere or company name at the top. There is a fine print at the bottom that says Debt Advisors of America. I don't have any loans. I make monthly credit card payments and that's it. This letter is causing me a lot of mental and physical distress. There is a notice number at the top that says D4T7-04309, the date of notice is 6/5/2024. The phone numbers listed are ************ and ************Business response

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Debt Advisors of America concerning a letter I received from them on May 28, 2024. The letter appeared to be a debt collection notice urging me to respond "regarding the adjustments of your credit accounts". This is the second letter I have received from this company in the last six months.Unlike correspondence I have received from reputable companies, this letter had ************************* listed where the company information and return address should have been. The letter listed several banks with which I do business and again urged me to respond within 10 days under a section with **Failure to Respond** in bold letters. After looking closer, I realized the letter is a deceitful marketing solicitation. I received a letter from the company stating that I need to contact them within ten days of receipt of the letter. I am up-to-date on all of my credit card payments and do not know how this company got my information. Additionally, I did not even know the name of the company until I saw the fine print at the bottom of the letter as others had. I need my name and information removed from their marketing list as this is an extremely underhanded way to scare individuals into participating in what is most likely a scam. People are struggling enough and to have a company essentially steal information as a way to make money is truly scummy behavior.Business response

Hired Debt Advisors of America to settle my debt. They included seven places in the agreement:Bank of America Chase,***********,Bank of *****,Victorias Secret,CareCredit,Citibank. In the process of this duration, they had informed me they settled with five of them, and they were out of the picture already. The other two remaining they stated, they had sent to Oakstone law group.Upon completion of this, I had made every payment every month for 3 to 4 years until this part of my agreement was paid in full and paid off. Approximately almost a year later now, I am getting letters from *********** and Bank of Omaha. *********** is wanting to sue me and take me to court and Bank of Omaha is wanting to offer me a settlement amount to clear off with them. *** also gotten calls from places saying that Oakstone law group had went out of business and went bankrupt, and when you call the number, it says vacant or been disconnected. I am getting letters from law firms attorneys who want to represent me that have said they found out Im being sued by *********** and would like to represent me on my behalf against them. In my view, did not ask Debt Advisors Of America to transfer me to Oakstone law group, and I have done more than needed on my behalf on my part of the agreement and have paid it off completely. I am filing a complaint today against Debt Advisors Of America , whom I have hired as my Debt settlement agency on this issue to begin with and completed my part in full per the payments and the agreement.Business response
