Dear Better Business Bureau,I am filing a formal complaint against Whitts Tow Away, Inc., located at ******************************************, for what I believe to be predatory towing practices.Incident Details:Date of Incident: December 19, 2024 Location of Towing: Publix parking lot at ******************************************************************** Towing Fee Paid: $145.00 On the date mentioned, I parked my car in the Publix parking lot intending to shop at the store. After briefly stepping away, I returned to ******, completed my shopping (receipt timestamped 9:56 AM), and returned to find my car had been towed. I was charged $145 to retrieve it from Whitts Tow Away, Inc.I spoke with Publix employees and other witnesses who confirmed that individuals monitor the parking lot and immediately call tow trucks if they observe anyone leaving their vehicle, regardless of whether they are legitimate customers. This practice feels predatory and unfair, especially since I was shopping at ****** and fully intended to park there for its intended purpose.Desired Resolution:I request that Whitts Tow Away, Inc.:1.Reimburse the $145 towing fee I was **************** and cease predatory towing practices at this Publix location.I am providing the towing ticket and Publix receipt as evidence upon request and would appreciate BBBs assistance in resolving this matter.Thank you for your time and attention.Sincerely,Jin

On August 1, 2024 at 1:45 am my car was towed from my personally owned and deeded parking spot. The reason was that my tag had expired . My car is registered in ************* and my registration was renewed in June, 2024, the previous month. ************* has two-year registration cycled and there was continuity in registration coverage. *****' towing refused to listen to their error and charged me $461.00 . to be able to remove the auto from the lot.

This company is so scammy. I have a handicap decal and I was parked in a handicap spot. They towed my vehicle and the reason first was that it was there longer then 24 hrs. I showed picture evidence of when I actually got home that night showing when I parked my car they were so surprised. Then as a rebuttal they find a new reason as to why my car was towed. Claiming its because I dont have a resident sticker but my leasing office has no parking spots left so Im not able to get a resident sticker claiming no sticker no overnight parking. But then tows my car at 9am way after the time. To even think I asked for permission regarding the handicap spot the day before and my leasing office never thought to mention I need a resident sticker to park in handicap. Whats even funnier the gentleman who said I could park in the spot wasnt aware of the rule either. This terrible company is in business with my leasing office on making plenty of my neighbors life h*** Theres no more parking spots available for residents and now they prohibit us from using visitor parking spots. Ive been towed by them 5 times this year alone all they care about is making a buck

At 5 am on July 13, a car was unlawfully towed under the pretext of an obscured paper display. The car, despite the paper being in its usual place, was hauled from the rear, resulting in transmission issues. As a front-wheel-drive vehicle, it is now running improperly. This is the second time we've been towed by the same company in two months; previously, they refunded us entirely for their mistake. We suspect they are now retaliating against us for that refund. We have detailed mechanical paperwork with all the evidence. We were left waiting outside their business for two hours from 11 am to 1 pm, enduring the punishing sun, with no one else in sight, before finally receiving our car.

My rental car was towed from the parking lot of my apartment complex, where I've been parking since 1995. When I reached out to the condominium, I was informed that the security guards (from the ***** RANGER SECURITY SERVICE' company) were supposed to be on duty from 6:00 pm until 6 am, but I hadn't seen anyone there for a couple of years. I tried calling the security post multiple times, but nobody ever answered. They also briefly mentioned that there's no rule allowing cars to be towed from private parking lots without prior warning. Additionally, all residents are required to provide necessary information about their cars as per the condominium association's requirements.I'm not well-versed in the law, but I've never heard of a rule that permits cars to be towed from private parking lots for something like an expired decal or a 'condominium permit' without a warning. It seems like the security guard (or possibly the entire security company) might be colluding with the towing company to tow cars from the parking lots (for the cash). This action seems unlawful and predatory. I can only describe them as scoundrels, highwaymen, and road-hogs!Thank you

On 5/26/24 at 11:30PM my car was towed for being there after hours. At 12:47AM, 77 mins after being picked up I was present to pick up my car from the tow truck company where I could visibly see my car parked. The owner of the business, ****, was reluctant to return my car because the yellow decal for registration was not on the car. However, I showed them the registration was active and current using MYDMV portal. He refused to accept my registration until I brought the yellow decal. He also stated I could not pick up the car on 5/27/24 due to the holiday. On 5/28/24, I went to pick up my car and was charged $250 as 24 ************* fee and $59 for leaving it as daily open storage for 2 days. I would like to get a refund for these charges as they were forced on me by the predatory towing practices of this Company. The car should not have been in there possession of anything longer than 80 mins. In addition, included is the message is the receipt from the towing company, the uber receipt with the arrival address of the ****************** at 12:47AM. There is also proof that my registration was upto date and current since 1/30/2024.

My dads car was towed from our apartment complex due to having an expired decal for only 3 hours at the time they took it. When we contacted them they said it was a security guard from our condominium that reported the car and when we contacted the condominium they said theres no security guard and no rule that says cars can be towed from public parking lots for an expired decal before getting a warning. This was unlawful and predatory. Pretty sure the security guard is just another of their predatory employees that just **** for cars in parking lots. My family is taking legal action against them and we wont stop until this illegal scam gets closed down. The guy that answers the phone is just rude and disrespectful and the lady that returns the cars is another piece of c*** They are the worst type of low life. I dont care how many lawsuits it takes, thankfully I have the time and money, but I swear this disgusting company full of idiots wont see a dime from another family ever again. These a******* will be on the stress begging for money since all they know how to do is scam people. Bunch of idiots with the ** of a snail that are not even capable of getting a job.

The person on the phone stated its law I said I know the law. Then the person on the phone switched and said its not the law but its company policy . My registartion was renewed I never recieved my decal in the mail. Anyway I went and got my decal and came back. The original price was 101, when I came back they said 140, they ended up charging me 172$. This is obviously a scam. And they were hoping I didnt come back wit my decal so they could charge me an extra day. They were extremely rude and one of the employees even tried to sell me drugs

Hi I would like to report a predator towing scam at the Brandsmart parking lot across from Dadeland. My son went to Panera Bread also across from dadeland to pick up take out food which he ordered. It was around closing time ****pm this past Sunday night Upon arriving there were no parking spots On the street He became concerned about parking underground as he noticed a large *** with a man loitering near the side of the truck. The *** and the man were parked at the Brandsmart lot. We later think he was the towing companys spy. The Brandsmart lot was completely wide open and empty of vehicles. All businesses in the plaza closed for the night. He parked in the Brandsmart lot went into Panera for tops 10 minutes which is literally 20 yards away He came out and his vehicle was towed from its spot to a lot in *********** The tow truck was hiding behind the building. As soon as my son parked, the spotter called the tow vehicle and it arrived within seconds to tow our truck There were no pictures taken by the tow company and there was no notification to ************ The tow company broke into our truck as well. There are tow signs at the Brandsmart lot The intent of the signs is to keep nuisance cars from parking during business hours I can see this happening during business hours and times where the lot is needed for the plaza parking but not on a Sunday night at 10pm where the lot is wide open Its a dangerous scam which Whitts towing uses to make money after hours. They use the empty Brandsmart lot as their place of business. They realize parking is tight on the street due to high rise residences built in the area. They also realize people dont want to park underground late at tonight The towing company is:Whitts ************************************* ************************************************** ************ My Son is a straight A student at Columbus high school. His intent was not To park illegally Its shameful we allow these predators to operate in our community. Brandsmart and the plaza should stop this activity and ban this company from operating outside the intent of the rules. Regards *******************************
