In filing my return for 2022 EG did not include my 1099 form. I recently received a letter from the IRS saying that I owed $3516 which I have paid. I asked EG Tax to reimburse me for the interest that I was charged, $308 and the fee I was charged to do my taxes, $125. They refused saying it was my fault that I didn’t bring my 1099. They have done my taxes for several years so they know that this form was needed. They’re the professionals and should know what I needed. After all that’s why I go there. If I knew how to do them myself I would. I trust them to know what they’re doing. This same mistake was done 2 years in a row. I understand that I’m liable for the taxes that I owe. That is not the problem. I feel that I shouldn’t have to pay the interest for a mistake they made and I shouldn’t have to pay them to do an incorrect return. I feel they owe me $433 for this error. Thank you.

After researching your issue, I have found that you had not produced the same 1099 two years in a row. When you received the letter for the missing income for the first year the second year was already processed so the missing income that was not accounted for would have still be an issue due to the information not brought to your tax preparer.  We do not know what kind of income you have per year and rely on you to bring in all your paperwork and income. When you sign your tax forms you are stating that you have reviewed and agreed with the results.  We did cover interest and penalties the first year but can not cover another year due to your mistake of not providing all the correct information to prepare an accurate return.

I am sorry if you think that we made a mistake by not knowing how much money you make per year. Clients have a flux in income annually, so we rely on the client to provide the appropriate information to due the tax return.

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. EG Tax is a professional tax preparer. I feel it’s up to them to make sure that I have giving them all the docs that are needed to do my return. They claim that they don’t know how much money I make. If they would have asked for my 1099 they would now. They have to have some obligation to make sure that I have given them everything. If I knew how to do it myself I would but I don’t so I go to the professionals. They have done my taxes there in previous years so they know that I’m retired and have incoming income. It’s ridiculous to blame their mistake on me. I want to be refunded the interest charged, $308 and the fee they charged me to do the taxes, $125. I feel like I have been done wrong here and want to be made whole.  Regards, **** ******

I am sorry but we can not refund you the interest and penalties, you missed bringing all the income statements two years in a row.  We do ask questions that pertain to your annual income but if you do not know you have income how are we to blame if we do not add unknown income to your taxes.  Again we covered the first year of issues but we can not cover the second year.

I attempted to get my taxes filed through the company. My appointment was changed twice due to no fault of my own. I was finally able to drop my taxes off and when they called and told me they were done I had to call corporate to ask for a discount for the inconvenience this has caused and asked someone to review my taxes and they said that part was not an issue. But it’s been over a month and they seem to have every excuse of why someone has not reviewed them or call me back when I ask for a call back

I do apologize that it took a little longer this year to prepare and review the tax return, we ended up with a shift in employment and tried to cover two offices with minimum staff.  The return was processed and reviewed with the client.

Christopher F***** incorrectly prepared our 2022 tax return resulting in a penalty to New York State. I discovered the error when I reviewed the returns the next day. Maria R****** corrected the returns but the state is still assessing the penalty. Maria sent a fax explaining why the penalty did not apply, but the state denied it. This penalty is assessed only because the original return was prepared incorrectly. I have left numerous voicemails, requested return calls with the receptionist, and sent emails all which rarely get returned. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism on their part

We had communicated with Mr. ****** and he was on the phone with the state also, we just need the state to finish updating the information that was sent twice. He will then get the money that he is waiting for.

I trusted EG Tax do my taxes this year and regret it greatly as my preparer made an error that ended in a letter from the IRS and an unexpected $3,000 balance being owed. Not only did he make an error, but no one from the company took the time to inform me of this error or the consequences I would be facing 4 months later. After a months worth of attempting to call and get answers and resolution, I have been ignored and given the run around. Not so much as an apology has been received at this point. I paid decent money to have my taxes done incorrectly and for this whole mess to come up with zero accountability from EG Tax. Now I'm left owing $3,000 that I don't have and having to spend my time reporting this issue with the IRS and NYS and next step a lawyer.

We have been advised of her situation by a staff member and the VP of EG Tax has been working on her case. Once he has a resolution, I will update this message.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  I have been waiting for calls and communication from anyone at EG Tax for almost two months now. Telling me someone is looking into it and will call me is the same run around I've heard for weeks on end. Communication has been horrible, customer service has been horrible and at this point I have no reason to believe that anyone is actually attempting to resolve this issue.   Regards, ***** ******** ******

We have been working with Rosanne and the IRS and the state about her business EIN.  Her tax payments were made under the wrong EIN which they did on thier own with the federal and state and when we tried to fix it we had gotten lots of letters to correct  many filings. It is not simple fix as Rosanne can attest to because she has been on the calls and emails with us.  The government agencies said to pay the debt and they will correct where the money is applied to once they process the corrected forms.  All the payroll and business filings and issues should be resolved by now. If not let us know what is outstanding. The latest of 2020 personal return resulted in her owing money to the state due to receiving unemployment.  That did not have anything to do with her business. That was a liability owed for income received. Any time there is an issue, we work with Rosanne to try to resolve it.  Esther is aware of the issues and makes sure that we respond to all issues pertaining to this case.If there is anything else outstanding please let us know and we will get it resolved
