I was told by an inspector that my new home would need a new roof. Richard, whose name I got from my realtor, offered to add another layer or start over. Since the previous owner had never had leaks, I figured that a second layer was a good option. In Feb. 2020, I was not living at the house but my contractor was here working. Within 4 days there was a leak. Within 3 months of moving in the roof again began to leak (summer 2020) and there was major damage done to a few of the interior walls. Richard came out and "fixed" the problem. Richard hired my contractor to repair the walls. My contractor did just that however it has come to my attention recently that Richard never paid him. Fast forward to December 2022, I notice the walls once again are wet, worse than the first time. Richard came a few times and claimed that it was all my contractor's fault. He said it had something to do with the bathroom fan not being hooked up correctly. Mind you, it was the same fan the previous owner had used. There was nothing new. Richard wasn't always professional in handling this "ice dam" issue. He was condescending and talked inappropriately about the work I had done at my house. Later that day I found that Richard had stashed my gutter guards behind some trees in my backyard. They are still there. I asked **** **** Roofing to come out and assess my roof. It turns out the roof is still leaking. They wrote up a report which I forwarded to Richard. I asked that he have his business insurance pay for a new roof and stop the damage to my interior walls once and for all. Then he hired a lawyer. The lawyer wrote me a letter. I am not to contact Richard. The lawyer stated that all Richard was hired to do was put a second layer of shingles on my roof. This is not true. You can see in our contract as well as the zoning permit, a few other things were expected to happen. Besides that, a new roof shouldn't leak. Although Richard gave me a warranty, he isn't standing behind it.

The problem is NOT her roof.  I shared documentation and proof of this to *** *****.  There is no need for a new roof, another point in which I have provided multiple pieces of documentation to support.  *** ***** took it upon herself to call upon a company to inspect her roof and is being told she needs a replacement; I have yet to understand why a roof that is 3 (three) years old would need to be replaced.  She had an ice dam that backed up water under her roof line (not an issue with the roof) due to excessive moisture in her attic caused by inadequate/insufficient venting issues.  I repaired this for her at no cost and tried my best to explain the issue to her.  With all the rain we get annually, why is it only now, after the ice dam issue that she needs a new roof?

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

I need a new roof because it continues to leak. Documentation of this was in the **** **** Roofing assessment which was sent to Richard. There were actually TWO leaks BEFORE the "ice dam". The "ice dam" was the third time I had to contact Richard. Richard said he "fixed" both leaks but never paid for the damage done to my walls. My contractor repaired them the first time and Richard was supposed to pay him but never did. The damage from the "ice dam" is in the exact same spots as the original leak but more extensive and included the ceiling. They have not been repaired. I think I included pictures of them and if not, I can include them. Every time I walk into those rooms I feel so angry and duped. When Richard was here for the "ice dam" issue, he made a point of criticizing my contractor's work. He had my contractor's number but instead of talking to him, he complained to me. When Richard put the roof on, my contractor was here working inside. I was not living here. Apparently Richard hadn't gotten the appropriate permit which caused my neighbors to call the police. The police arrived and confronted my contractor who had nothing to do with Richard's negligence. He also never had the power lines covered by ****.

I have both documents and I guess I thought I had included them. I am having trouble using the "Attachment" selection this page offers. May I send them in an email as an attachment?

Due to the nature of the comments that continue to evolve from *** *****, I will again, adamantly profess that there is NO reason for her to have a new roof put on her house.  Of course, I do not have the overhead, advertising, etc., costs of larger companies that are willing to charge an individual for something they truly do not need.  I have forwarded the additional comments listed on here by *** ***** to my attorney as I feel that any response on my part is just going to invoke more information that is not relevant my negligence, as she refers to, regarding the work I performed at her home.  *** ***** has listed copies of the permits for the roof, but does not supply any information that relates to the work she contracted out that was performed inside of her house that included electrical, plumbing, and drywall.  I tried to discuss items I uncovered relating to this work (and repaired at not cost to *** *****) and I have further contacted the building inspector of Madeira and spoke in length with him about these issues; he told me he is going to do some research and get back to me.  I regret that *** ***** has such an unfavorable opinion of me, but also feel the need to defend my reputation as an honest business owner.

I paid Richard to put on a new roof that does not leak. It has leaked 3 times in 3 years. It continues to leak. Richard only describes one leak after the very cold weather. It leaked in the summer too. My walls/ceiling are still not repaired or repainted. This would be the second time they have been damaged. The gutter guards are still behind the pine trees in my backyard where he stashed them. None of this is professional. I worry every time it rains.
