Sloppy work, poor communication, no follow through, and extremely unprofessional. We decided to go with Hastings because we like **** and their pricing seemed reasonable compared to other quotes we received. We went ahead and agreed to use them. At the end of the first day our yard was completely torn up, but I understand that is part of the construction process, what was not ok was the trash, fast food bags, cups, and half eaten bags of Doritos laying around our yard. We sent a message to **** that we were not happy about the trash and he assured us that they would clean it up in the morning. In the morning ***** told my husband that "its just part of the construction process". Overall we were not impressed by the foul language used by the crew and ***** while working in our yard. When the concrete was finally poured ***** informed us that he would have guys come back at 7pm to make the saw cuts, I questioned him as this would only be 3 hours since the concrete was poured. The guys came out, made the cuts, and sure enough the next day there were footprints left in our concrete all around the foundation of the house. Concrete splatter left on the foundation and siding. They left divets were they set their saw down and took a chunk out of the less than 24 hour new patio. They have come back and "fixed" the issues in the concrete by splattering patch filler and make the patio look worse than it did initially. ***** repeatedly missed appointments to meet with us, he is impossible to communicate with as he constantly talks over us and doesn't listen to our complaints. They show up and start "fixing" things without informing me of how they are going to fix the issues or when they are going to be on our property. I specifically told ***** that I didn't want more of this concrete filler used on our property and the very next day he sent out a crew to apply more of it. He's incredibly rude on the phone and not respectful of our time.

We have been dealing with this company for 2 years now ... the first patio poured was awful and done very quickly... they told me they would tear out and pour another patio with a different worker and crew and it was the same crew who poured the second patio and it was even worse! The current patio on my property has cracks in the patio, its crumbling away, 2 parts of the patio have sunk and water sits when it rains. The siding on the back of my house is covered with dried up concrete because they didn't clean up or finish the job. I have let this company know with plenty of time within warranty and have messages and Ring video of them promising that they would re-do the patio a third time because Mason & Shawn both came out to look at this patio and told me it's an awful patio. Then out of nowhere I can't get ahold of anyone. they won't return my text messages or my phone calls. Very bad customer service and they make promises they can't keep and there timeline to get a job started and finished is absurd and takes forever. We have been patient with this company but this is the final straw and what is on my property is an eye sore and definitely not worth the money I paid. I want a full refund! If that means they come tear out the patio that would be great!

After repeated delays in pouring concrete and a dramatic loss in confidence in Hastings and Sons, their owners and employees I asked for a refund. Shawn H*******, owner told me he was refusing to refund any amount. When I asked for a refund they hadn't finished prepping the forms and basically had dumped a load of rock without any proper ground grading. Going on almost a year and I've had to engage an attorney who received no reply to a letter requesting reimbursement for over $8000. Very disappointed in their business practices including what seemed to be a plan to upcharge repeatedly and going back on their word and contracts. I was told all kinds of stories about why they couldn't complete the job and why they wanted more money.

May 2021. 6000.00+ Adam was main contact throughout project and bill collector. There are divots and poor leveling in concrete. Damaged vinyl siding along with concrete splatter on house. Damage spot on lawn. Adam said he would fix the next season. More spots in concrete that need attention. No returned calls. Ghosted once he received payment in full.

This job was completed over two years ago. We have not heard from him since he bounced a check and we had to go back to collect the final check from him. That was on June 14th 2021 I have attached a copy of his contract it clearly states that he has 1 year under warranty. We have not tried to call us or left any messages since 2021. You don’t get to claim some damage to your siding when there is none over two years later you don’t get to claim there is something g wrong with your driveway over two years later. We cover any and all warranty claims within 1 year of the completed job. However if Mr. Hershey would like to reach out to me directly I’d love to speak to him about his alleged issues and attempt to come to some agreement to get them taken care of

To Whom it may concern; Here is contract for warranty and texts to Hastings “Adam” that to some he replied to “ gain my business” and then to ignore his “Hastings & Sons” responsibilities. I don’t like slinging mud but since Hastings & Sons felt like they should start slinging mud by saying my 2nd  check bounced ??? I believe what happened was I had other contractors do work within  week of each other and similar amount of checks  and similar amounts were written and I simply was confused to transfer monies to cover Hastings & Sons 2nd check. I asked if he could run check again and he said no because bank returned it. So embarrassingly I wrote another check. “Adam”was very understanding about it and said he wouldn’t charge me for the returned check. When he picked up the 2nd check I believe the text July 22nd backs this.At this point he was still interested in “my business “ to get their money and came and picked another/3rd check up, I assured him money was transferred. I may have showed him transfer was completed ? My wife asked about the pits and other concerns then and he replied I’ll have to look at schedule and I’ll get back with you ? Joke was on me I guess ?   After this point he responded a few times but mainly ignored my repair requests. I have 3 neighbors that had concrete done within weeks/month of mine but looks better quality than mine. I had concerns with quality but he ignored my texts. My next to last text to him was April 3, 2022, within a year of service. My last text was 3 days past one year of service, though I couldn’t drive on driveway for five days ? When should my warranty start? So since I have proof of trying to get ahold of Hastings within a year of service I feel entitled to get any repairs done . I understand that companies go town to town to get business but that should never halt these businesses to back their work . I hope this is enough to get what I paid for . Thank you for your time.

On Aug. 29, 2022 I hired Hastings and Sons to replace my asphalt driveway with a concrete driveway. It was supposed to be 4" thick,54'x11', with a minimum slope of 1/4" away from the house(as stated in the contract and required by building code). The contract also specified wire mesh or 1/2 rebar. What I got is a driveway that was higher than the garage floor and sloped into the garage. In the spring with the heavy rains the water collected in the front of the garage and soaked into the wood framing of the wall so I had to cut a portion of the driveway to prevent water into the garage. To correctly slope the driveway away from the garage as specified by the contract and building code will require tearing out a minimum of 16' of concrete away from the garage. The driveway is also not the thickness as specified in the contract. In fact it also does not even meet a building code minimum of 3.5". The thickness varies from 2" to around 3.5" due to overall poor quality pour of the concrete. The rebar in the concrete is not correctly placed to meet building code. Rebar can be no closer than 1.5" to the edge of the concrete. The rebar in my driveway is at or near the bottom of the concrete where it will rust, expand, then crack the concrete. Although the surface of the driveway looks good, from the driveway being higher than the garage and sloped backwards, the overall thickness of the slab, invalid installation of the rebar, overall poor engineering and implementation, the only solution is to tear out the current driveway and do it right. Hastings and Sons has not fulfilled the terms of it's contract.

this customer had his driveway put in 10 months ago! there was absolutely nothing wrong with his driveway it was put in at company specs just like every other 250 driveways we do a year. He initially contacted the Ohio attorney General to file a complaint about a month ago. I went to his house to see what he was talking about because he is just now informing us of a false complaint. When i got there i was APPALLED at the fact the has has cut up and removed the entire top portion of his driveway. I have a feeling he needs to replace his gutter drains and had to cut up the driveway to do so. I tried to talk to him in person and he shut the door in my face. The reinforcement is always placed in the lower 1 inch of the concrete to prevent surface cracking. the slop had a 3 percent pitch from the garage floor down to the road like its supposed to like it states in our contract. This customer ruined his own driveway and is now trying to get money back to repair it. I have provided pictures of my findings when I went to his home. We have no faults here. He received a quality product and is trying to manipulate the system to fix his drains. I want to reiterate the fact the he cut up his entire driveway to do some sort of work there that i got pictures of and then he tried to file a complaint with the Ohio attorney general and they closed his complaint right away under false accusations and now he is trying to do it here.

We hired this company around Aug 2022 to redo our concrete patio on our second level. We specifically went over the details with them in regards to them removing the thin layer on thincrete on top and reapplying it keeping it the same color as before. When they started the job, they took chunks out of the existing patio with what I would consider a tool such as a jack hammer. We had expressed to them that they can not take too much off top deck due to the weatherproof sealer that is on this patio on top of the concrete flexicore. If they do this they will damage the barrier for protection. Needless to say when we got home they went too far and broke through the moister barrier. They also took chunks off the the surrounding edges of the patio and around our stone columns which has now damaged the patio. They attempted to put the concrete color mixture on top and got it all over our railing posts and applied this material unevenly to where this patio is not even level. The material has already started cracking a few days after they said they “completed” it. They also made mess with getting this concrete mixture all over our stucco below and now that needs repaired due to the damage from the chunks they took out of the side of the patio and with the concrete dripping down all over the facing of this stucco. We have discussed this issue with Mason and Mason also had their Manager come out and look at it. They both assured us this would get resolved. They asked us to get quotes for repairing all the damage and even told us they have never seen such a mess in a job before that should have been a simple project. We were even told that they have Insurance so if it costs too much then they can file a claim. We also had holes put in our screen from the subcontractors pole when he tried to float the material in the enclosed patio. All of this is on video even my conversations with these managers. To date, we have sent them estimates and we have heard back from NO ONE. 7mths

The project was to remove an old sidewalk and patio, the patio was to be stamped and colored. Contact was for 11,650, date 4/27/22, they showed up on 5/11/22. They didn't finish until 5/24/22. They worked on several projects at one time, so they would work a few hours each day. (not what they told me) The problem is the concrete was chipping up immediately from the time they were done. We had the project mgr over to look a the problem. He agreed to have someone fix the problem. We never heard back from the project mgr and he would not take our call. We finally talked to the owner, and he said he fired the project mgr. he can over to see the project, and he said he would have someone fix the problem. They tossed the color power on top of the concrete, they told us in the beginning that they would mix it in the concrete truck. We will continue to see the color chip away. The owner will not call us back or send anyone over. If he does pick up the phone he will tell you when he will be there and no call no show. My warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

I entered into an agreement with Hastings and Son's Concrete after seeing their booth at the ********** **** *** ****** **** in March of 2022 to replace my concrete driveway as well as a side walkway and rear patio, as well as add additional concrete to the rear patio. I was quoted and paid a cash deposit to get started. The representative Adam who quoted the job in person was my point of contact, although he was not part of the actual work process. The work was done by another independent contractor, ****** and his family. Upon completion of the work I was told I owed an additional $ for additional width of the side walk and patio under the newly constructed deck as well as demolition of the old concrete that was claimed to be thicker than allowed in the contract, even though I was told verbally the additional widths would be no charge (since I was spending so much) and not given prior notification of any price increases before completion. I paid all payments in cash and was not given any receipts. Upon completion of the work and payments made in full I was promised there would be sealant applied as listed in the contract, damage to my lawn fixed, and cleanup of concrete splatter from my house and deck, none of which were done. I tried to stay in contact with ****** to get everything done, but he stopped communicating. I tried to work this out with Adam, but he blamed ******. Finally Adam stopped communicating and i let the situation go, even trying to apply sealant myself to part of the patio before setting up the spa for which the patio was poured. Within a couple months the poor quality of the work became evident and the driveway and side walkway began to crack in multiple places and holes began to appear. In addition the color of the concrete did not turn to white but stayed a gray color (due to the lack of curing sealant applied on the new concrete I have since learned). I later contacted John the owner who sent a new guy to "fix" the issues, but they remain.

Poured a concrete patio last April. Uneven surfaces, horribly stained by poor application of sealer, sealed while wet, corners not square, slab is now crumbling in places, left concrete in yard and covered it with dirt. No response from Adam even after threats to involve the BBB.

    Business response

    01/20/2023

we addressed any issues we had with the customer upon completion of the job. All sealer is applied when the concrete is wet. It has a curing compound to assist the curing process and can only be applied when it is wet. the yard was completely cleaned all damage to the yard was taken care of. we brought in new fill dirt graded everything as well as planted grass seed. we also refunded 678.00 of the customers money and he agreed that was a fair refund for the issues to be taken care of. a month later he sent me a text message and claimed the we (allegedly) hit his house with a piece of equipment and had to pay for the damages. we paid the 404.00 without question. He had a quality job and have addressed his concerns. We dont bury concrete in peoples yard.

    Customer response

    03/11/2024

If I could give a zero star rating I would. I hired Hastings and Sons to install a concrete patio. After installation, the concrete was uneven and stained (they said it would cure) and we had already paid them. They tore up my yard and pulled sections of the fence down to drive their equipment through. A few months later the patio started disintegrating and holes opened up in the surface down to the dirt (they did not use a gravel base). I spent months calling and leaving phone messages with no response from them. I filed a complaint with the BBB (Complaint  ********) and they lied saying they would replace the patio, but did not respond for several months. I took them to Franklin County OH Small Claims Court (Case # **** *** ******* and won. Now they are refusing to pay the court judgment. Steer clear of this company!

I contacted this company to pour a patio at my new home. I liked their quote of $3800 so we hired them to do the job on March 7, 2021. The weather wasn’t great so they pushed it back a few days. I didn’t want them to come the day they came because I was concerned about the falling temperatures and snow showers predicted. They said it would be fine and they put additives in for the cold. I l let them come and they poured the patio, supposedly sealed it and removed the wood forms all in the same day. The cold set in and so did the snow. They left a mess of excess concrete from the job and where they cleaned their equipment. It dried and adhered to our patio. I called numerous times for them to come remove that and they never came even though they said they would. Where they removed the wood forms, since the concrete wasn’t dried, it messed up the stop in some spots. We now have flacking on top of the patio in certain spots or that it is just breaking down. We understand we have a year warranty, but nobody will return my phone calls for over a week now. I feel cheated and scammed by this company. I want it fixed or reimbursed.
