We owned a timeshare with Fairfield/Wyndham since 1999. We always struggled with getting reservations to use the timeshare and was always told that we needed more points to better position ourselves to get better reservations. In October of 2022, we upgraded our timeshare to VIP; this cost us $30,000.00. Unfortunately, when we tried to schedule for the next year (2023), we experienced the same struggles. We had other companies that wanted to work with us to get out of the timeshare, but we decided to go with Encore. We made the decision to go with Encore because when we met with them on July 26, 2023, they said that they would be able to recover some of the money that we had spent, since it was less than a year. Our representative was Jason ******* and he said that Encore was 80% successful in getting some of the money back that was spent by their clients; he said that we had an even better chance since it had been less than a year. The lead representative was Michael ******** both assured us that, based on their experience, we would be getting a refund. We ended up paying Encore $15,332.00 to exit the timeshare, but after the initial meeting, it was next to impossible to get in touch with anyone. We called Jason several times with no response; we called Mike several times and finally was able to speak with him. Mike informed us that our case was still in progress and that he would get back with us; he never got back to us when he said. The last time I spoke with him (months ago), he informed me that Jason was no longer with the company and I should deal directly with him. Mike has not gotten back with us and now he doesn't answer or return our calls. I feel that we were misled, pressured and deceived. We would like some correspondence from Encore on what is going on with our case. If Encore has not gone through the process of recovering our money, we think that we are entitled to, at least, a partial refund.Encore Law, Inc Response

This review is based on incorrect information. Our company always try to recoup funds from our client's resort they are being released from, but the success of recouping funds is based on there being valid grounds that the client was treated unfairly in some form or fashion by their resort, and our negotiations with the resort.
Our company successfully completed this client's Release of Ownership in February of 2024, and their file is complete. Please let us know if you need any other information to address this review.

Called the number on their flier ********* ***** to request to be removed from the mailing list again on 21 Nov 2024. I previously attempted to be removed in both April and June of 2024. The addressee of the mailer hasn't lived at my address for over 10 years. I explained that to the call center in April and June: both times they assured me the owner at "Encore Law" scrubs the list monthly and removes names from their mailing list. I understand that mail campaigns are purchased months in advance, but they have a poor process for removing non-leads from their lists. This timeshare exit event mailer (sometimes "Exclusive Dinner Event", most recently "Exclusive Catered Event") has been the most difficult to get turned off of any other junk mailer. Encore Law deliberately hides who they are on the mailer to keep prospective marks in the dark. Mailer lists NO BUSINESS name, yet claims to be BBB accredited: just a return address of ** *** ***** *********** *Y and an Albany NY mail ****** *** **** The "Atlas Team" call center representative named Christine stated in Nov 2024 that they only handle reservations and have no ability to affect the mailing list. However, I received a different story back in June. Christine stated that I could Google "Encore Law" and try to contact them directly to be removed. I did not try to call Encore: based on my research, they seem to respond to BBB complaints better because it is more public. As for the Atlas Team call center (who also handles calls for "Travelo"): Christine claimed to be a supervisor when I asked to speak to one (so did the other employee I spoke to on the same day). Christine also claimed that these mailers are sent to everyone in a geographic area. This was also a lie because my name doesn't appear on mailers from them. Their mailing list is based on public records filings and data broker databases of individuals who own timeshares.Encore Law, Inc Response

I'm an 82-year-old widow + my experience with Encore Law has been very troubling. I feel Encore Law used deceptive, misleading + subtle pressure tactics to PERSUADE me that THEIR timeshare exit services were necessary to ensure that my children would not inherit my timeshare's obligations + become responsible for its maintenance payments. I had no desire to get rid of my t/s but went to their presentation because, as advertised on the card, I was curious to learn about recovering some of the costs that I paid for its purchase. I was SHOCKED when told that all timeshare obligations ARE passed on to one's heirs and one's children become responsible for paying its maintenance fees. I now understand this to be inaccurate but, at the time, I felt FRIGHTENED by the prospect of financially burdening my children. I protested that, before purchasing MY timeshare I specifically asked if my children would inherit my obligations and was emphatically told NO, but the Encore rep firmly stated that timeshare companies LIE about this to their prospective buyers! I felt convinced that using Encore's timeshare exit service was the ONLY way to protect my children from inheriting my obligations at my passing, especially since, as Encore claimed, other methods would fail. When told their services cost $9600, I said I couldn't afford it. l insisted I needed to sleep on their proposal but was told they were traveling elsewhere the following day + I'd have to decide before I left. Shaking uncontrollably, I made it very clear that I couldn't make ANY decision! The rep said “Let me help you.” I felt convinced I had no other recourse so I signed Encore's Agreement, fully trusting + believing that doing so would protect my children from future financial burdens. Thereafter Encore just ignored my many requests for exit progress updates + did nothing to help me. I feel SCAMMED + STUCK + REGRET I signed that Agreement. Hope this review helps others avoid the GRIEF + HUGE DEBT I incurred.Encore Law, Inc Response

Encore Law is unsure who led this client to believe that a deeded timeshare ownership would not pass on to their heirs, as deeded real estate does pass on to heirs. Resorts directly tell their owners that their deeded ownership is in perpetuity and present that as a benefit to the owner. This client has not spoken with our staff about this misinformation, but we are always available at our toll-free number to explain it in detail and our company will complete our contractual obligation to complete the Release of Ownership for this client.Customer Response

Encore’s response fails to address the issues I raised in my review. Instead, it deflects responsibility with irrelevant commentary about deeded timeshare ownership, which does not apply to my NON-deeded timeshare. This evasiveness is typical of Encore’s deceptive practices. Equally deceptive was the fabricated text I received on Dec. 1, from Encore's Release Dept stating: "Your Marriott Willow Ridge Lodge Timeshare release is advancing on schedule. .... We will reach out in another 30 days with an update." This is blatant misinformation because I do NOT own a Marriott Willow Ridge Lodge Timeshare. As an 82-year-old widow, I was misled and pressured by Encore representatives who exploited my age and vulnerability. They falsely claimed that my timeshare obligations would automatically pass to my children, causing me significant emotional distress. Using this fear, they manipulated me into signing a Service Agreement for $9,600, for services which I could not afford and did not need. To make matters worse, Encore took control of my financial decisions by encouraging me, under the guise of “helping," to sign a credit card application to pay for their services—an act that I now recognize as deeply unethical. Though I was hesitant and repeatedly expressed my inability to make a decision, Encore’s representatives persisted. This reflects a calculated attempt to extract money from a vulnerable and distressed senior citizen, regardless of the harm it caused me. Encore’s actions have caused me immense grief, financial burden, and regret. Their tactics—spreading falsehoods about timeshare inheritance, pressuring me into an immediate decision, and having me open a credit card—were clearly designed to benefit them at my expense. I have since confirmed with Hyatt Vacation Club Owner Services (previously Welk Resorts) that my children will NOT inherit any obligations from my timeshare. All they need to do upon my passing is notify the company and provide the contract # on my Certificate. This directly contradicts Encore’s scare tactics and proves that their services were a sham from the outset. I urge Encore Law to act honorably, immediately refund my money, and prove they are not the outright scam they appear to be.Review from todd d

Encore Law did a great job getting my wife and I out of our timeshare. We are very pleased that we no longer have to wonder how much our maintenance fees are going to go up every year nor do we fear special assessments any longer.Encore Law, Inc Response

They are Not a law firm. I am an attorney. This is a scam. They want you to pay tens of thousands of dollars, persuading you that would be cheaper than the legacy of maintenance fees you would be leaving your children. Read the review by “Alan H“ on 11/4/24. This is exactly what this scam company does. My wife and I attended a NJ dinner presentation. The ASSigned salesman had written some information down on a piece of paper for us. He got up to make a phone call (which he really didn’t make, but pretended he did) to confirm that we qualified for this “deal“ they were going to make for us. When I realized how BIG a scam this was, we got up and left. The salesman actually chased us down in the lobby and told me I couldn’t leave with the piece of paper he had written information upon. I told him that was ridiculous and that I wanted to keep the paper. He actually moved in front of me to block my path, until he realized I was about to knock him out of the way if he didn’t move . He scurried back inside to get his boss. You can’t make this stuff up.Encore Law, Inc Response

For years my wife and I have tried to get rid of our timeshares. We had over 40k invested and could not even sell them for a $1 on ebay. Every time we complained to our resort company that just tried to sell us more to "Fix the problem with the ownership" we fell for that line 2x/s and finally wised up and had enough. It wasn't until we attended a presentation with Encore 7 months ago that were finally rid of the albatross around our neck. As a man of my work I told David ******** that once we received our timeshare release papers i would put in a good review for him. I highly recommend Encore for getting rid of your timeshares.Encore Law, Inc Response

I believe this company is a scam to extort money from unsuspecting clients. We were told that they would be able to terminate our timeshare contract. We paid money to them for this purpose and were turned over to Global Title Group for processing. They in turn, kept delaying the process for almost a year without resolution. The resort finally sent papers asking me to prove a financial hardship in order to be released. As I cannot prove this, I said that this was not what we contracted. I was told that this was the only way to get out from under the timeshare. We either file false papers or keep the timeshare. We are out a significant amount of money and are still stuck with our timeshare and all the fees.Encore Law, Inc Response

The property that this client owns has a policy to not allow any owner to be released unless they are forced to by a company like ours. The Release of Ownership is in its final stages and the document in question that the resort requires is only asking for the owner to list their monthly/yearly expenses. The Release of Ownership cannot be completed without this document being filled out and returned to the resort. Please contact our office if you need any other assistance with the completion of your Release of Ownership.Review from Brandi W

I met with Encore Law about my timeshare. To say I was skeptical at first is an understatement. I went to meeting and they explained what needed to be done. I’m so glad they could help get rid of my timeshare. Thank Encore and especially Cindy, for always answering my calls and questions. I would recommend them to everyone to help get out of their timeshare. Brandi W.Encore Law, Inc Response

I met with Austin at Encore Law in April. I was unsure as what to expect with this process but so happy that we just received our final paperwork stating that we no longer own our timeshare!!! Our children are so happy that they are not going to be stuck with the fees and responsibilities of our purchase 20+ years ago. I’ll be honest that I didn’t like the fact that we had to pay that day to get out but Encore Law did everything that they said they were going to do. Great company and Austin was a huge help!Encore Law, Inc Response
