August 30, I took Juno, my beloved kitty to Deer Park Vet because he was ill and showing some symptoms associated with rabies. The Vet said I should have kitty euthanized. I wanted to know what Juno died from, to make sure I had not been exposed to rabies. I paid $211 for Juno's exam and euthanasia. A few years ago, I had a necropsy performed on a kitty at ***** at ***. I was familiar with the process and fees. *** ****** at ***, said it would be about $250.00 for a necropsy but did not know how much the rabies test would be. I authorized a necropsy and rabies test and no other tests. ********* vet sent Juno to *****. I did not hear back on Juno's update, so a few days later I called *************. No one could tell me what was going on and said someone would get back to me. I was very concerned due to the fact that if Juno had rabies and I was directly caring for him, I may have rabies and rabies can progess to death rapidly, in some cases. I finally called ***** and spoke with *** ***** who said they did not have permission to speak with me! I was horrified; in that I am the owner of Juno! Finally, ******* at ***** was able to get permission from *************, to allow me to speak with the necropsy team at *****! *** ***** at ***** said the Necropsy was $200, the rabies was $82, I verified these amounts on their website. I got a fraudulent looking text demand from DPV for $664 on 9/13. The final report was not yet written on Juno's findings. *** ***** said Deer Park Vet should not be billing me until the Final report was complete. It was complete on 9/26. The total I should have been billed for was $282 + a $10 non test fee = $292. I got a paper bill from DPV for $664! Deer Park Vet charged me $400 for the $200 necropsy and $264 for the $82 Rabies test. I request an adjustment for $372. I will pay the $292. I did not authorize Deer Park Vet to authorize any additional tests, and I never signed any paperwork to give Deer Park Vet permission to act on my behalf.
