I was browsing ******************* and ************* on my work computer. When I checked my personal email on my personal phone, i received 2 separate emails for coupons from these retailers. I was not signed into my personal email address on my work computer at the time I was browsing and I do not sign into my personal email on my work computer. I am not sure how SafeOpt was able to get my personal information off of my work computer to send to my personal email. I do not have an account with ******************* and ************* or SafeOpt and do not use my personal email to sign up for offers on my work computer. I was able to unsubscribe to both email offers but it does look like they obtained my information illegally. I do not want to be contacted by this company again and I want my information deleted from SafeOpt.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your issue. We work hard to bring relevant offers to people from brands they love just when they need them most, but understand that some do not wish to hear from us.

In researching your matter, it appears that all information related to your email address was requested to be deleted, and it has been. Unfortunately, this includes the data necessary to explain more specifically how we might have received your email address. While it is impossible to say for certain, we do receive information from multiple identity resolution sources.

While we do not have an exhaustive list of identity resolution companies, here is a list of several of the biggest identity resolution providers, each of whom provides a mechanism to opt out of sale of personal information:
    LiveRamp - *********************
    Audience Acuity - ***************************
    ************* - **********************
    Wunderkind - **************************
    Acxiom - ***********************
    Neustar - *********************
    Intent IQ - *************************

Please note, we do not receive information from all the listed sources.

We have unsubscribed the email address included with the complaint from all future emails, and as I previously noted, all information has been deleted.

I suddenly started getting junk mail from companies I never even heard of via SafeOpt. I have NO idea who SafeOpt or AddShoppers is, and I should not have to unsubscribe from something that I didn't subscribe to in the first place. I suspect they are tracking my internet action, and they need to stop. I request that they PERMANENTLY remove me from their junk mail list and stop sending unsolicited emails.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your issue. We work hard to bring relevant offers to people from brands they love just when they need them most, but understand that some do not wish to hear from us. We give a simple mechanism to unsubscribe at the top and bottom of all our emails.

We have unsubscribed the email address included with the complaint from all future emails.

I have received several emails from this "business" back to back. Absolutely none are relevant to me, and *all* of the web browsers I use send a do not track request, which they claim to adhere to. So either they are lying or their system is so incompetent that they connect the IPs collected with the wrong email addresses. As others have said, unsubscribe does not actually unsubscribe from their emails on general, only that specific ad. I have marked their email as spam, reported their messages as phishing attempts because of how dubious and shady this all is, and genuinely hope that at some point, they are actually forced to follow the guidelines and terms they post on their site.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the error.

This company somehow got a hold of my email address and sent me an ad from I site that I was checking out (but I had certainly not allowed to send me emails). As my data was previously leaked, I urgently need to know where they got my email address, as this will be part of an investigation.

    Business response

We work hard to bring relevant offers to people from brands they love just when they need them most. We identify email addresses likely to be associated with a visitor to a website through a variety of proprietary means, including using third-party identity resolution providers. We did not receive your email address or any other email address as part of a data leak. To safeguard your privacy, we cannot provide more specific information regarding your email address in a publicly posted response. For more information you can contact us at ************************************************************.

We value privacy highly, which is why we include an unsubscribe link in each email. We have unsubscribed the email address included with the complaint from all future emails.

This company is in violation of the CAN-SPAM act by the FTC/FCC. They track the public IP Addresses of known users and their email accounts. If the same Public IP Address user visits a site that they manage, the shopping cart is monitored, and that user gets an email for abandoned shopping cart items. This also leads to false emails when the IP/Email address no longer lines up. First Violation:Per the FTC/FCC, unsubscribe options are a must and must be maintained across different platforms and entities (SafeOpt, Minty, AddShoppers ect...). The Unsubscribe process in place does not give the recepient the option to remove themself from the actual entity vs the site they visited. Second Violation:The name SafeOpt is misleading as being safe and there is nothing safe about it. Example:If you shop at company A1 and provide an email address when purchasing a product, your public IP and email is recorded and given to this company. Even if using an Incognito window, you're Public IP is exposed. If you go to Company B2 and add an item to a cart, they have your public IP. If you don't make the purchase, you are emailed to the associated email address recorded from company A1's IP Address record. This means the company has no respect for any privacy as stated to previous BBB complaints.

We value privacy highly, and therefore minimize the data we collect and use to provide our services. This includes not retaining IP addresses in most situations (we do log IP address in some transactions). We disagree with the assertion that we operate in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act. We aim to bring people money saving offers related to brands they are already interested in, but understand not everyone wants to hear from us, which is why we include an unsubscribe link in each email we send. We have unsubscribed the email address included with the complaint from all future emails.

    Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: The unsubscribe process does not unsubscribe the email address from your services. It only unsubscribes from your services related the specific client that you represent as you indicate in the process. As such, this is a CAN-SPAM act violation if the recepient cannot unsubscribe from you in totality along with any future information that you may collect from additional clients. A database of unsubscribed references must be maintained by you to refrain from future emails being sent. Any response other than that you are going to correct this will initiate a complaint to the FTC/FCC for the protection of the public being spammed by your service(s). Thank you.

This is a spam business. Their entire business model is spam. They email me about birth control offers when I am not a woman in any sense of the word. I obviously did not sign up for birth control emails. Only a shady company that cant make money through legitimate means sends creepy emails without prior authorization. And before they give some non-sense excuse about 3rd party data, just know, not a single consumer on this planet appreciate being spammed without consent, no matter where you obtained the data. It is disgusting how morally indefensible these money hungry businesses operate. I pray there is a day these types of practices are outlawed. I already sent my Congress person a more detailed email about their practices, but hopefully letting public know through BBB will help as well.

This company sends ad spam. Within these ads they have placed false "unsubscribe" options. No where are you given the option to unsubscribe from their continued ads but instead are given an option to unsubscrube from recieving the one ad you are currently seeing, the most recent one. They send a different one the next time. If you click on manage preferences to try to unsubscribe or send a complaint, it pops up a security captcha over and over, indefinitely. No matter how many captchas you complete correctly, it just puts up another. They need to stop sending me spam and they need to have an F rating here on bbb for unethical practices.

We value privacy highly, which is why we include not just an unsubscribe link in each email, but also a link to more fully manage your personal information. While most recipients of our emails are pleased to receive an offer from a brand they love, we understand that is not always the case. We have unsubscribed the email address included with the complaint from all future emails.

I've received third party advertisement email messages from SafeOpt that are both unscrupulous and illegal. I did not sign up for messages from SafeOpt and have no desire to interact. Further solicitation will result in reporting you to your state's respective ************************

SafeOpt takes privacy seriously. We have investigated this matter and determined that we received the customers email address from a third-party data partner who had previously received the customers permission to share it for marketing purposes.

SafeOpt provides a link at the top and bottom of every email it sends to unsubscribe from emails. We also provide a  link to manage personal information, including requesting the deletion of personal information. The customer did not make any request directly to SafeOpt to unsubscribe or to remove their data before contacting the Better Business Bureau.

We have deleted all data associated with the email address and added the email address to our unsubscribe list.

On 8/13/23 I visited an e-commerce website (Pistola) after clicking a ******** ad. I did NOT provide the retailer with my email address and left the website after clicking around briefly. The next day I got an email in my inbox advertising a discount for the product that I had viewed on the e-commerce website. The email was from SafeOpt. Its clear that they got my email address from some third-party that I did not consent to sharing my info.

    Business response

    08/14/2023

Thank you for the feedback on SafeOpt and the opportunity to respond with more information. Based on our internal research, it appears that we sent an email to the identified address after purchasing it from a data broker who represents to us that it has permission to share the emails addresses it sends to us. We also previously received the email directly from a website that discloses in its privacy policy that it shares email addresses it obtains for marketing purposes and gives a mechanism to opt-out.

We understand not everyone wants to receive emails from SafeOpt. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, as required by law. Going beyond those requirements, we also provide a link to a page (******************************) to manage other information preferences, including requesting the deletion of all information we have about an individual.

Our records indicate that the consumer unsubscribed using the provided link in our email and we have sent no additional emails since receiving the unsubscribe request.
